Structured Cabling: The Definition

Structured cabling refers to the process of installing various telecommunication cables and wires in different infrastructures from campuses to office buildings. It serves to improve land line and mobile communications through the fiber optics wiring used.

Subsystems of Structured Cabling

Cabling can be divided into five subsystems as follows:

• Vertical or Riser Cabling= this specific type of wiring connects all the communications equipment on different floors of the building.

• Horizontal Wiring - Refers to conduits that connect the telecommunication rooms to individual outlets on the floor itself.

• Demarcation Point – This refers to the point where the telephone company network ends in terms of wiring and begins connecting with on-site (customer’s location) wiring.

• Equipment and Telecommunications Hub – this is where all the necessary equipment for communication is located to essentially serve the people inside the building or campus.

In addition to this, there are certain standards that are connected to cabling design and installation. This relates to precise wiring details that are necessary for the optimum performance of the communications equipment. If the company does not follow the standards, issued by Telecommunications Industry Association or TSA along with some other concerned groups, the necessary wiring as for your telecommunications equipment may never be approved. This is why it is important to follow safety standards.

Finding the Right Telephone Service Provider

Now that you have an idea what and how structured cabling affects the entirety of the communications network, you can now proceed to finding the right telephone service provider for you. Here are some helpful tips that may lead you to the right company when it comes to optimum communication service in the long run.

1. Options

First of all, you have to focus on the plans. What kind of subscription plans do they have for you as a customer? Do not hesitate to ask about this and try to get what is best for you and your family.

2. Reliability

Secondly, you have to make sure that the equipment and phone network is reliable enough. If they’re offering broadband Internet and telephone service in one, understand that there are pitfalls to this. Mainly, if the internet service is down, chances are your phone lines will be dead also. So if I were you, I would choose a separate plan for the phone and internet.

3. Phone Number Portability

You can also check if the company offers to allow you to keep your original land line phone number the moment you switch to an internet based plan. This is one feature that can come in handy if you would rather not change your mobile numbers in the long run.

4. Sound Quality

This is one important factor that you should take into consideration when looking for a telephone service provider. The company should be able to provide it communication line with the best sound quality both online and off. If not, this could be a deal breaker.

Conclusion

These are just some of the many factors than you have to consider when looking for the best telephone service providers and structured cabling companies in your area. If you are able to follow these steps, you will definitely have an easier time getting the most out of your land line or mobile phones in the long run.
