Inspiring yourself with positive thoughts that something is going to work out well is called motivation. So how to facilitate the process for your mind to generate such kind of thoughts more often?
Practice the solution from the worst scenario
Knowing how to act in a both critical and crucial situation will help you be even more confident while playing under normal conditions. If you have a partner you usually play with or a coach, you can ask them to act different scenarios in order to improve the skill of overcoming fear and motivate yourself. Since this is fictional, you will not lose anything, but you will get necessary knowledge. For example, start your service game with 0:30 or 0:40 in your opponent’s favor. You will be way more motivated and focused on each and every point since you do not have to right to fail. Or you can try having only one serve instead of two to improve your first serve in rate. This kind of practice will help you discover some competitive instincts in you.
Back up your strong sides
Every tennis player has his or her best shots. Instead of thinking of your weak sides, which is still pretty important as you need to be optimal in everything, try to more think of what you are best at. Keeping in mind that you have something to show your opponent that will stall his game will increase your self-confidence level as well as remind you of what you are capable of.
Reward yourself
Rewarding yourself for something you have done or achieved can really make you get motivated as you know why you are doing all this. First set a goal you need to reach whether it is improve your poor serve or practice drop shots and then set a reward for you. Once you’ve done what you were doing, meaning achieved the set goal, you should enjoy the reward. With time you will become motivated even without rewards. They are necessary for first stages only.
While each of these things may seem not really important to you, they indeed are. Do not skip any of these steps, otherwise you may lose your motivation. The worse it goes, the harder it will be to bring it back. Motivation is something that is born in your mind based on positive information and self-statements. Thus refrain to your best power from thinking of something negative so you would not harm your motivation level.
Rewarding yourself is often a good plan, especially when working long projects.
