How to Overcome Anxiety Before And During A Match?

Speaking about anxiety you should first of all learn not to confuse this definition with nervousness because anxiety and nerves have pretty different meanings. Anxiety comes when you are looking forward to having something done in the future and you are anxious because you think that you may fail. For instance, if your up-coming tough match is going to take place in a week or within next several hours and you are anxious about what is going to happen all the time. And nerves would come during the match. Anxiety – is what you experienced thinking of what is going to happen when match would start. When match starts – you are getting nervous about what you can do.

To start with you should not be afraid of being nervous. Being nervous is good. Bad is when you are calm all the time. If you are nervous it means that you do really care of what you do and what will be the outcome or the result of your efforts. But sometimes you may freak out and lose control over your feeling and anxiety. For this reason it is extremely important to know how to control yourself, otherwise it may result in unexpected outcome.

First step is to locate the things that need to be done. Identify your goal or whatever you would like to get from the match. Whether the aim is to beat your opponent, or just stay strong, or play the points well, or work out on how to beat someone, or just lose showing some good game – identify the problem and keep it in mind.

Second step is to think over what can be done. Think of your goals and estimate whether you can achieve them or not. Since anxiety is before the match, you still have time to push some things that you are probably not very good at, to improve them and become more confident.

Step three is a simple continuation of step two– be confident. The more confident you are, the less worried you become. Your anxiety is a direct enemy of your self-confidence. When you continuously think of something you are not good at, you develop negative outcomes on different events and situations. The more you get filled with negative emotions, the more likely your nerves will go off during the match. That is why it is important to control your anxiety before the match to take place. Simply think over of what you are bad at and start on working on those things. Practice them until you make sure you do that right.

Do not however concentrate entirely on the things that require improvement as you may forget about the other things you already know. Keep fit, learn some brand new techniques that may be useful during the match and should get less anxious. Having yourself prepared will help you avoid fear and prevent from being anxious. While there anyway will be a definite amount of nervousness inside you, this can be controlled and there is nothing to worry about.
