Mental Preparation In Tennis

If you are a professional tennis player and you play or are going to play on series of tournaments next season, it is very important that you have your mental health prepared for possible stress, especially when you figure out that you will be playing against a player that is generally stronger than you or have some advantages before your play. Besides regular physical training, you also need to be mentally prepared. How do you prepare yourself for an up-coming tough match?

a. Remember what you are good at.

Try to remind yourself about your qualities, whatever you are good at, what you do really well, features of your tennis style that only you have. This includes every aspect of your tennis playing style from serve and base line shots to net points and drop shots. Do not think of what you do not really good as this is not to criticize yourself, this is all about pointing out your best sides. This tip should help you build confidence in your own play, so simply revise what you have and rely on that.

b. Trust best sides of your play.

Point out your best features and concentrate on them building your tactics accordingly to what you are best at. For example, if you are good at hitting the ball down the line or your reaction allows you to play well at the net, focus on that. Instead of forcing yourself to play everything that your opponent wants you to do running from one corner to another, suggest him your own style. Plan your game according to what brings you winning points.

c. Know your opponent.

Nescience – is what makes you scared before your competitor as you do not know what to expect. If you have played against your future opponent before, then try to remind what he is weak at. Whether it is poor backhand or he can’t play long volleys, you need to build your game plan according to that. If you have not played against your opponent before, then watch him play against anyone else. If he is famous, try to Google videos showing him play. You will learn his weak points and when playing against him make him do what he hates to.

The point is to always keep in mind these three helpful hints. Being mentally prepared will help you play your best tennis with ease and without any stress or fear to lose.
