Losing Weight With Hypothyroidism Part 1

Anyone who has been diagnosed withhypothyroidism knows that losing weight can be a struggle. Maybe you are like me and have tried many of the big name weight loss programs without the success that you would have liked to have had and weren't sure why. Well, I am here to tell you that losing weight with hypothyroidism is entirely possibleif first get your thyroid levels wherethey need tobe to get your metabolism working at its optimum level.

Optimum metabolism is the key to any successful weight loss plan. It is how your body uses the calories that are taken in as well as those that are stored. Chances are that any previous weight loss attempts that you have tried were a failure mainly due to a low metabolism. If you can get your metabolism working at its best and do this all day long, then you will see the results that you are looking for with your weight loss.

But before you do canconsider anythingelse,though, you need tocontact your physician and get your thyroid levels rechecked. Your thyroid needs to be at the proper dosageto achieve youroptimum metabolism. If you don't have these levels correct, you will forever struggle with your weight.

Many patients are unaware of this, butthe guidelines for thyroid levels have changed and have become more narrow. So, if you were considered borderline on your dosage in the past, you may require more medication. If your levels are still within therangewith the new guidelinesafter being retested, discuss with your doctor how you are feeling and that you are interested in losing weight. They may be willing to adjust your dosages if you are able to explain what your are doing and how you are feeling. If you have been feeling lethargic or tired, have had issues with constipation, have had changes in your menstrual cycle, feel weak or cold, or have had changes in your blood pressure, you and your physician may decide that you need more medication regardless of the test results.

If losing weight with hypothyroidism is your goal, then you must also make sure that you are taking your replacement thyroid medication properly. I personally take synthetic thyroid medication. I was having a variety of health problems that the physician couldn't understand. It turns out that I was taking the medication incorrectly. You are supposed totake your medication2 hours after eating/drinking and 1 hour before eating/drinking. AND you cannot use any product containing calcium in this time frame. Calcium attaches to the medication and your body does not absorb any of it. If you have been taking your medication incorrectly, as I was, you will notice an immediate difference in how you feel and in your energy level.

Losing weight with hypothyroidism is not impossible. Make sure that you take the necessary steps to be sure that your thyroid levels are where they should be before beginning any weight loss program.
