Your Thyroid is Talking, But Are You Listening?

Last week I talked about the Thyroid and Food. Now I want to let you in on a few things that may help you understand why something isn't right. Look closely at my photo. Look at the eyebrows. They only go about half way. Ladies can generally hide the missing section of eyebrow with an eyebrow pencil . They are able to shape and blend in a way that I aint gonna try! Guys, have you ever taken a girl by the hand and her hand was cold and clammy like a fish? That can be another sure sign. My Mother (God Bless her) wore a flannel nightgown and quilted robe and it was 93 degrees outside! That is COLD! To be honest, my mother could bring down a fever quicker than an ice bath. Let her run her hand along your spine! Your temp will drop by 3 degrees, fast. Hopefully you wouldn't go into hypothermia from the drastic temp drop.

These are just some of the signs to look for with Hypothyroidism. On the average almost 63% of the population have either Hypo, (Too little of the thyroid compounds) or Hyper, (too much of the same compounds). I mentioned the skin being cold to the touch, well micro cracks will develop on the fingertips extending at times down the finger. Even with the clammy feel this is a sure sign. Use of cream does little to alleviate the dryness and cracking, and in some cases even makes it worse. Gloves are generally wore by both male and female whether the weather demands it or not. The men put on a show of Aristocratic behavior, while wearing gloves in the summer. Driving gloves generally.

The next thing that you should look for is dry brittle hair. Ladies, this concerns you too, as much as you condition, it never seems to help. Hey, don't shoot the paper boy! He is just delivering the news about your thyroid. Now all this fuss has been about the poor schmuck with hypothyroidism. We can leave this ugly picture to go on to hyperthyroidism.

Hyperthyroidism is caused by too much of a certain thyroid hormone. Hyperthyroidism is deadly if not contained, as it can cause tumors of the neck and esophagus. These tumors can grow until they cut off the airway and voice box. This is the most deadly of the 2 because a simple goiter can erupt into a deadly, and complicated surgical problem in only a matter of days. This can be construed as Grave's disease.

It is highly unlikely that, with modern medicine, that such a thing can happen, but with hyperthyroidism it is possible. Some of the symptoms can be extreme restlessness, you can feel moody and lethargic, your hands may shake, you may be short of breath even when resting, you may loose weight even though you are packing it in. Ladies, you can have missed periods and even worse menstrual cycle.

Neither of these diseases are anything to laugh at... they are serious problems that need immediate medical condition.Neither of these conditions warrant a trip to the Emergency room now, but if you notice any of these symptoms, Please arrange an appointment with your physician.

Having a thyroid problem shouldn't preclude you from any activities, just be sure that you are properly medicated and your day will generally be nice.

Street Talk

Very good Information, My mother had hyperthyroidism and had to have surgery in her neck. She wears choker like jewelry to hide the scar as it appears she has had her throat slit. She still battles some symptoms from it but has been able to maintain it through medicine and regular checkups. It is more common than people realize. Thank you for sharing this information about symptoms to look out for.
