3 Things To Help Improve Time Management

Three Things That You Can Do Right Now To Improve Your Time Management

The one thing that we all have the same amount of and it doesn’t matter our background or financial situation is time. The one thing that there never seems to be enough of is time. Here are 3 things that you can do starting today that will help you get more time.

Shut Off The Damn TV

Actually don’t just shut off the TV, cancel your cable, cancel netflicks, cancel or delete any games in your computer. I know that seems extreme, and for some of us it is like cutting off a finger. I nearly cried when I canceled my World of Warcraft subscription (I was a digital “badass”). How many shows do you keep up on? Before I canceled our cable we were keeping up with 3 shows that me and my wife liked. She had 2 shows that she followed without me. My kiddos had something like 4 or 5. That is 3 to 6 hours every week wasted. Each season is usually between 13 and 16 episodes. Also this is crazy but if the TV is on, usually you end up watching it even if you have already seen what is on.

Make A List And Check It Twice (sorry it is that season).

Before you go to bed write down the things that you need/want to do the next day. Write it at night, studies have shown that people that do this fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Most of the time when we are tossing and turning it is because our minds are trying to make sure that we don’t forget to do stuff the next day. Write it down and free your mind. While you are at it write down you top 3 long term goals (I will have a post about this at a later time).

When you wake up get your list and prioritize the most import things that have to be done that day. If possible do the most important things first. If you have ten things on your list you should have ten numbers (the numbers might not be in numerical order, and unless you feel the need don’t waste time rewriting the list in the proper sequence). Do number 1 completely before moving on, then number do number 2 completely, etc. I find a good deal of personal satisfaction from crossing things off of the list.

Multi-tasking is a myth. It seems like you are getting a lot of things done all at once, but what is really happening is that you are doing 10 crappy jobs, and the most important things may not get done completely. Maybe you don’t believe that multi-tasking is a myth? Then why are people unable to drive and talk on their cell phone. Two tasks that are pretty easily done alone, but done together, people turn into dangerous morons that drive like there is a bee hive in their lap.

Move Faster

This one is the most fun and I am sure that it is the funniest for people to watch. Simply move faster, walk faster, write faster, talk faster, pee faster (just kidding), but you get the idea. Have you ever been in a situation when there was a major deadline that was rapidly approaching. Everyone moves faster. It almost seems counter-productive and that you are rushing and things will get missed, but try it out. Make sure that you have your list with you.

What simple things have you done that makes you use your time better?

Will you try out these three tips for a week and see if they do help?
