How to Stop Getting Distracted And Be More Productive

Laziness is not the only reason why we do our job so slowly. Or don’t do it at all. There are many distracting factors that can influence our productivity. This article can help you define some of them and, most importantly, fight them.

Even if you are the god of self-control, it can be still very difficult to concentrate at work sometimes, especially if you don’t want it that much. Unfortunately, even the smallest distraction can ruin your productivity. Here are some tips that can help you get to the business.

1. Plan your day

Every one of us has special hours in a day when we can do our tasks easier and faster. Plan to do the most important tasks during these hours. Writing a detailed plan for the whole day can help you complete everything and forget nothing.

2. Block or hide all the distracting websites and apps

Parental management can be good not only for disobedient children. It can be suitable for us, constantly distracted grownups as well. Is it hard for you to be offline on Facebook at work? Remove the app from your phone and block the site on your work computer. There are many different tools to do that.

3. Notice how you spend your time

There are different kinds of distractions out there. It can be not only wasting time on Facebook, playing games on your smartphone or watching cute videos. There are some less important tasks in your agenda, right? But if you spend more time on them than on really important ones, you can also call it a distraction.

4. Keep the colleagues who distract you aside

If you work in an office, you probably know how distracting colleagues may be. Chatting, asking questions that can wait, discussing your boss’s new haircut, etc. You can wear big head-phones to show that you’re not up to talking. Or you can openly say that you are busy.

5. Put the distractions off for later

If you cannot stop thinking of the things that distract you, just postpone them. Write them down and come back to them when you are done with the task.

6. Divide big tasks in small ones

It is very easy to get distracted when you have a big task to do. If you need to motivate yourself to start a big project, divide it into several small tasks. It is much easier to start doing a small concrete task.

7. Teach your brain to focus

You can put a lot of effort into trying to get rid of distractions. But your brain can still be your worst enemy. So if it jumps from thought to thought during your work, you need to learn how to control it.

8. Don’t overdo it. Certain amount of distractions can be needed for our productive work

Distracting when you need to do important things is terrible. But it doesn’t mean that we have to be focused 24/7. Distractions can be healthy and even necessary for us. They can stimulate our creative thinking and help get new ideas. But do it in the right time!
