I think it is just wonderful that with the coming of the vtech innotab, you can give your child something which they just can not fail to learn from. In the past, educational toys have often been a bit geeky and also seen as a bit boring for many. Not so with this - I am sure it is going to be a great big hit as well as being acceptable to the coolest of the cool.
In 2010 the tablet PC was the latest and greatest trend in technology products. Now in 2011 we can see that this trend has moved from the adults to the kids.
Just like we have the childrens' toy hoover, oven and mobile phone, the kids now want their own tablet PC.
Here is the opportunity for Vtech, who are by the way said to be the world's largest manufacturer of cordless telephones, to develop a new market in high-quality, innovative technological educational products.
There is no doubt that these can be seriously influential in children's educational development.
The Vtech InnoTab is durable enough for small hands, while still looking enough like mom and dad’s tablet to make the kids feel they are 'playing the same game' as their parents.
When we are thinking about the digital age we live in today, it is reassuring to hear that it is said that technology can be a positive motivator to get kids reading.
In fact many 9-17 year olds say that they would be interested in reading more books for pleasure, if they had access to an e-reader and e-books.
While the vtech InnoTab is not aimed at this specific age group, but at slightly younger children, it certainly supports reading digitally.
On the InnoTab, a child can see stories brought to life, with interactive e-books.
They can either read, or hear the story being read. The graphics are colorful and the story readings include special voices for each character, along with music.
There are also specific games to test and help understanding. The InnoTab highlights the words as they are being read aloud and if they touch any word, they will hear it being pronounced.
The e-books also have their own dictionaries to aid understanding. While some stories and games come as standard, extras can also be added via cartridges and many more are becoming available all the time.
As well as acting as an e-reader, the Vtech InnoTab will also play videos and act as an mp3 player, so they can have music while they play and learn.
When this generation of aged four to nine year olds get to high school, computers with touch screens will be a normal way to get information and write homework projects.
The InnoTab gets them used to this concept at an early stage and encourages learning and reading on the way.
