When promoting your product or service you should always think about the user. Who is going to be reading your ad? What are they looking for? What benefits can you offer them? This is going to determine how good your ad copy is.
Here is the basic structure of any ad-your headline, the body, your call to action and your url.
The headline is the most important part of your ad copy. This is the ad for the ad, if that makes any sense to you. This is especially essential for any e-mail campaign. This will show you the open rate. Make your headline 25 characters.
Each line of your ad copy should be 70 characters, use questions when ever possible. Also make your ad keyword rich, meaning use those keywords throughout your ad. Use bullets with the benefits.
Make sure you tell your reader what to do, the call to action. Most people know to click the link but unless you tell them to do so, they may just scoot on over to the next ad. So be specific and give them directions on exactly what you want them to do.
Go ahead and test out different display Urls, you can change your Urls using a tool like hypertracker. The clicks will depend on how good the body of this particular ad copy is.
Here is a great tip for keeping your ads congruent with the landing page. Create a miniaturized version of your sales letter head when ever possible. People will more likely
buy more from you if they get the same message from your ad copy as the page they land on.
Now let’s just go over banners ad sizes here for you.
• Small banners 468x600
• Leader board-725 x 90
• Sky scrapers 120x600 & 160x600
• Rectangles 250x250 & 300x325
You can make free banners at Mybannermaker. Thedigitalbob does great work and they have decent prices to make your banners for you. I have not used 99designs but I have heard that this is a great site as well.
Either make your banners stand out, make them bold or have them made to look like part of the page you are advertising on. A good idea is to have them animated. I saw one the other day that really caught my attention it was a banner on a banner with the call to action on top. Pretty creative, this is something to think about when you are making your own. You will want to keep them under 38K to comply with the guidelines.
Once again take the pictures and benefits from the landing page to keep the banner congruent.
Always include your own url, one that you own in your banners, your own domain whenever possible. This way no one can steal it from you and if they do, Cool because it will lead them right to your offer.
Again always track your advertising.
Here is a tip that I want you to use, keep all of your ad copy together in a separate folders on your desktop, this way you will have everything ready and be more prepared when the time comes to placing those good ads. The more prepared you are the easier it will be.
A great free program that I use is Google Analytics, although they are delayed by a day you can track multiple sites. You must have a gmail account to set this up, make sure to get this set up right way.
