One Saturday afternoon, I wanted to have some minutes of rest after working in my online business. I opted to sit down in the rocking chair front of the television and turned it on. A woman in the screen caught my attention. She was in her early 60’s and was being interviewed by the host of the program. It was actually a reality show in a local network called “Wish Ko Lang” that seeks to bring hope to the TV audience. It is the first wish-granting program on Philippine television, featuring inspiring stories of ordinary Filipinos.

The true to life story featured that day got me hook to the end. I was not able to watch from the very beginning but I got interested to it because of the situation of a mother and a son living together. The woman was actually a mother of a bedridden son. She had to do some laundry for her neighbors to be able to provide for their needs. She volunteered to assist in a feeding program of a day care center hoping to bring some leftovers.

Why was the son bedridden? It goes this way. The son was actually in his late 20’s. He was a very energetic, promising and successful professional yet very humble in his dealings with anyone. Let’s call him Rod (not his real name). Every other day Rod goes his best friend’s house (May –not the real name) to tutor her child. Happy and fulfilled in teaching the kid he was fixing his things and about to say good bye when the husband of May arrived. The usual greetings happened but no response from the other guy but a smile who went straight to their room. Suddenly he showed up in front of them all including the child still with a smile on his face. But Rod, May and the child reacted and commanded him to put down the gun in his hands. The guy was perceived to be acting an abnormal way when he showed them the bullets on his palm. He was claiming that the gun is not loaded with bullets and was just showing it to them. Unintentionally, the trigger was pulled in an instant that led to Roy’s paralysis.

From a son who used to provide for her mother, now he is a bedridden totally depending on the kindness of her mother. Is there any hope for him? I couldn’t think of any solution. But, as the old adage say “don’t lose hope as long as you are alive”.

What does this story has to do with online business? I say it again, this is good news for all of you there who are struggling to find an employment because of physical defects. Don’t give up but try to face life’s challenges instead. The “Wish Ko Lang “program gave hope to all the viewers including me that’s why I am also moved to share it with you. A new hope was assured to him when they gave him a free laptop and internet connection. Roy is paralyzed, bedridden, totally dependent but he has a sound mind. The gift granted to him is an assurance of a better tomorrow, as he said there is hope now as he starts an online business.
