How To Find Targeted Traffic

I read all over the web about how difficult it is to find traffic for their websites. But I am here to state that it is really easy to get visitors to your website. If you paid me $100 I can guarantee to get you at least 200-300 visitors to your website. It will probably even be better. But the real challenge is how to find targeted traffic. That is what is discussed in this article.

You Built It, They Came. But Are They Interested?

It is of little use to anyone to have someone come to your website that is not interested in the subject matter. I would much rather have 5 people that were interested than 1000 disinterested people. And you have to think about your traffic efforts when taking all this into consideration. Suppose you had a way to generate those 5 interested people that worked consistently. You would apply that way again and again, wouldn't you? Yet people continually use methods that don't work best. They simply want thousands of visitors to their website.

How To Find Out What People Are Looking For

The first step in getting to your target visitors is to find out what they are looking for. This seems like too obvious a statement but it is the one area that people don't concentrate their efforts. Here are some methods to help you accomplish that:

  • Seek out forums that are similar to yours and see what kinds of questions people are asking.
  • Do a search on Similar Web Dot Com for competing websites that rank well, and read through their top pages.
  • Go to question/answer sites like Answer Dot Com or Yahoo answers and find what kinds of questions people are asking there.
  • Do an Amazon search for the top selling self help books that are related to your niche.

After spending a bit of time with the techniques above, you will have a great base of people that you can target for pulling them into your website. The next step is to match those potential visitors to what they may search for when trying to find a solution to their problem. But there is a delicate balance between choosing very high level keywords that have a lot of competition to more narrowly focused keywords that will get less competition but much more targeted visitors. This is the underlying difference between getting thousands of non targeted prospects that have little chance of buying from you to getting those five or six that just may be ready to take advantage of what you have to offer.

It may be worthwhile at this stage, to try and determine what it is that you are actually going to be offering this target market once you get them. There is nothing worse that finding people that may be interested in your market and then bringing them to a page that does not convert them into either customers or onto a mailing list. By considering your goals you can structure your landing page with the appropriate call to action. If you lose the prospect at this point of the process there will be little chance of getting them back.

The Methods To Get Traffic

The last step in the traffic generation is to use tools such as pay per click (PPC), Facebook advertising or search engine optimization (or a combination of all of these) to drive those visitors to your web pages. It is really important to take the steps mentioned above before doing this as when you know who you are targeting you know how to focus your traffic methods to be in sync with your target market.
