Have you ever been to the beautiful Gulf Islands off West Coast of BC? Here you can find some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. There are around 225 islands that run along the Strait of Georgia otherwise know as the Gulf Islands. Many of which can only be accessed by boat.
The boating lifestyle is very popular in this area. No wonder with the mild climate, the season is extended substantially compared to the rest of Canada. There are people who prefer sailing, and there are people who would rather the use of motor power for travel on the ocean.You see the newer model of boat and vintage models as well. No matter your vessel, the love for being on the ocean is for many a dream come true.
Some of the adventures you can expect to find while boating the area are things like the quaint inlets where tourists are always welcome, kayaking in the calm waters, basking in the sun, and if you enjoy fishing, Salmon and Halibut are some of the fish you can expect to catch in these waters. You are sure to see and hear the sea lions. Who knows you may even see a pod of Killer Whales. You can see snow capped mountains in the summer, and plenty of black bears spotted along the shores.
When night falls you can dock at one of the many inlets and enjoy the night life. Perhaps you would like to set anchor and gaze up at the stars from the privacy of the deck. You will be amazed at the wondrous site you will experience.If you come from a city this will be a most memorable experience.What a great way to spend a romantic evening with your special someone.
Spending time on the water does have it's issues. You must always be aware of safety. Here in BC you are required to posses a license to operate a vessel. You will share the waters with cruise ships and ferry's. Note you don't want to be in their way. There are boating lanes you must be aware of. Travel at night is not advisable. You should find the nearest inlet should a fog roll in especially if you are new to the boating world. I will touch more on safety in later articles.
If you are someone who has never spent time on a boat but have had a dream or are drawn to the ocean. It may be time you followed that dream. Think about a trip to the Gulf Islands. There are many options available you. More about that in later. Happy dreaming , sailing or boating.
