So I'm getting ready for my first internatial trip to the Bahamas, Freeport exaclty. It's around 9:30pm and our plane is set to depart at 12:30am. After all the bags are packed, the fridge is emptied, garbage taken out, dishes are done...I reach into the sink to do what basically everyone does (dont lie!) Going to take that peice of scrap food, and jam it down the drain. I've must have done it a thousand times, bad habit yes, of course im not going to mistake my sink drain for a garbage dispenser, but on this occasion I was scrambling a bit...what I thought looked like a peice of bread, to my surprise it wasent. Bread wasent this sharp! I ended up proceeding to crush it down the drain, in the process cutting my finger pretty badly in my failed attempt. I was dripping blood, holding my finger over the sink, a fairly big gash from what appeared to be a loose stem from a grapevine. Not ideal when leaving for the biggest trip of my life to Freeport with a massive double wrapped band aid, carrying all my luggage trying not to re-open a wound.
This being my first major trip Internationally, I wasen't sure what to expect, so I didn't. My girlfriends younger sister is getting married, and we're invited. All in the the whole experience was incredible. Well, minus the food service! The Bohemian culture is very laid back, and the restraunt businesses down there are no exception, minus a few great places. It took on average to get our meals between 45Mins to an hour. Granted we we're with a larger group of people, so if your travelling to Freeport with a smaller group it shouldnt be an issue.
We stayed at the Grand Lucayan Resort, a 2 minute walk from the main shopping centre strip, (Port Lucaya) It was very luxurious feeling hotel. Nice rooms, good service. Spacious. The weather was pretty windy at the times we we're there, in the Winter season, Jan7th-Jan14th. It was breezy during the days which was actually very refreshing. Evenings it seemed to calm off a little after 7pm. The tropical climate air was really a surprise when I stepped off the plane. Comming from a cold northern winter atmoshpere in Edmonton,Alberta...It was a huge eye-opener...feeling like your breating in suana like air. I Must have went thru 11 pairs of underwear in the 7 days I was there, haha! Good thing we brought our glad re-sealable garbage bags, or else that suitcase would have been pretty disturbing to unpack.
The water sports we're incredible, we went banana boating, Ski-dooing, and snorkeling, we took a "Bahama Mama" tour boat ride out there, it was a party the whole be way there, enough said! If your planning a trip to Freeport, definately check out the Classy Italaian restraunt called "Spinellies" Very ellegant.
The Wedding and reception went way into the morning hours, half of which I can't seem to remember, only by seeing pictures of that night, haha! It was a real incredible experience, one that I won't forget. The time it took waiting for the food far outweighed the amazing people, places, and sunsets on the beach. I would definately reccomend anyone planning a destination wedding to consider planning in Freeport! Although It does seem more of honeymoon destination, Freeport is more laid back ,and less fast paced than capital Nassau. All in all, I would love to go back again in the future.
