The Sand Free Beach Towel
Baz Brown, an Australian surfer, came up with the ingenious idea of creating the beach goer's dream towel. Brown created a water resistant beach towel and sand free beach mat rolled into one. Literally.
The Sandusa sand free beach towel looks like your typical cotton terry towel on one side, but the other side tells a different story. The nylon backing makes this towel a beach blanket that does not pick up sand, while at the same time preventing the water from the terry side from seeping through and attracting moist sand.
Before I keep going on about this awesome towel, let me back up and tell you why I'm super excited...
My Story
...While I had lost track of how many times I had been to Los Angeles, California - where my grandparents live - it was my first time going surfing. Ever. I had waited for this trip with much anticipation and together with two friends we had decided it was time to try it out.
We awoke bright and early that Thursday morning and headed down to Zuma beach where Taylor and Evelyn from Malibu Makos were waiting to hook us up with some wetsuits, teach us ocean safety and then take us out into the big, wide ocean and have us ride a wave or two.
For those of you who have been surfing, you know what I mean when I say that that was one of the best experiences of my life - and I have been around quite a bit... There's nothing like the sensation of catching a wave and just allowing the water all around you lead the way; it's breathtaking!
We spent about two hours in the ocean, trying out our newly acquired surfing skills before it was time to head to the Fish Grill for lunch. We managed to climb out of our wetsuits, get dressed and head back to our belongings when we realized we were still holding our wet bathing suits and towels.
We did not feel like putting our stuff in the trunk and making everything in there not only damp, but also smelly. So we figured we'd wrap it all up in our towels. One problem - they were wet too. Needless to say, there was not much to be done, so we simply did our best and hung it all out to dry when we got back to our place of lodging. It took quite a while till we managed to shake out all that sticky sand...
Back to the towel...
I guess you get where I'm heading to with this. For those of us who love to hang out at the beach, go surfing, suntan or just spend time near the water, this water resistant, sand proof beach towel is the perfect solution to damp, sandy car seats, and is great for bundling up wet swim gear without getting anything else wet.
I am actually moving out to California today - well, in a few hours, G-d willing! - from Canada, and I can't wait to get back to the water and all the fun activities it provides. I can't wait to be in a place where the sun always shines, the palm trees stand tall and the ocean waves wave. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the sandy, wet, mess-making towels that'll share a ride with me back from the beach...
I am in no way affiliated with Sandusa, but came across the Sandusa beach towel Indiegogo campaign while browsing through Indiegogo. I absolutely love this product and hope that I will be getting mine real soon and that this awesome beach towel will be out on the market for all of us beach goers in no time.
Sounds like a winner! Let me know how you like your towel. I live on the East Coast less than an hour from the beach and I might buy one!
