Unblock Facebook In China 2012 - VPN Reviews You Can\'t Trust

For anyone that lives in China, it's well known that a VPN can help you unblock Facebook and other sites here. Facebook is the life blood of western internet , along with Google and YouTube being blocked or having limited access, the internet just plain sucks in China. Having a VPN in China is necessary. But for those that are just arriving, or are planning ahead and starting to do their research, it can be tough finding websites that produce relevant information. Most of the VPN review sites that claim to have the "Top 10 VPN for China" don't know what they're talking about. How can you expect to unblock Facebook in China this year when the websites turning up in Google don't actually work?

That's a tough question, but you're one step ahead of the game because you've come across my article. Unfortunately, Google's bombed my blogs lately so I've anyone searching in Google is left with irrelevant information - blogs and adverts from back in 2009 when Facebook was first blocked.

HELLO! Google! It's 2012!

Some of it is still true - VPN still work in China. But to tell you the truth, most VPN sites have been blocked. And the ones that haven't are small, and flying under the radar. StrongVPN, 12VPN, Witopia, SwitchVPN, ChinaVPN - they've all gone MIA. Some have mirror sites set up to draw in customers, but good luck finding them!

On top of that, Google has banned the terms "Facebook" and "YouTube" from Google search, so each time you type it in it times out. They haven't banned the term "VPN", but typing in "VPN in China" just turns up a bunch of rubbish advertisements with VPN sites that are blocked anyway. Bummer man.

So far we've learned

  • 1. Google Search results are old news
  • 2. Top 10 VPN sites are from people not in China, and connect you with BLOCKED websites
  • 3. The Chinese firewall blocks all the terms you want to search for

Ok, so that's a lot of bad news. How about some good news?

Well, I have a couple of ideas. (this is why Google needs to put me at the top of Page 1 in the search engine results - I'm full of good ideas).

First off, you can separate "Face" and "Book", and Google will correct the search results automatically, bringing results for "Facebook".

Second, you can add the term "2012" to your search, to get fresher results.

Third, don't believe any blog that doesn't tell you which sites are blocked. I've seen 'em all, and websites that don't know what's going on give you a vague "Top 10" or "Top 3" list, but they're really just guessing. A real blogger, who's really in China will give you blocked sites, mirror sites, and new VPN sites that allow you to unblock Facebook in China.

Of course in a few months time this article may be irrelevant. Search results are bound to change, and more VPN sites for China are bound to be blocked. The Chinese internet zone is a truly fast changing place.
