Dumper Trucks Explained

No construction site of modern day can be imagined without the use of dumper trucks, as an important part of your business fleet. Although they are considered as one of the most expensive heavy vehicles, they are extremely needed on construction and mining sites.

Why so? Construction and mining work consist of many heavy and daunting tasks that normally cannot be performed by human hand.

  • Bringing construction materials (gravel, sand and fill dirt) to the site;
  • Transporting various material within the site while tasks are being performed;
  • Deposing materials in rows;
  • Carrying out waste materials (excavated dirt, old bricks, etc).

Dumper Trucks Construction And Types

Also called “tipper” trucks, the dumper trucks have an open-box bed equipped with hydraulic pistons to lift the front. When the truck gets to the particular destination when the material has to be placed, the back gate of the open-box bed is released thanks to the hydraulic pistons which raise the front of the bed. Hence, the material in the open-box bed is “dumped” on the ground in piles behind the truck.

There are several types of dumper trucks available for sale on the market, each specific and unique in its own way and used for particular tasks on the construction or mining site. They come in various sizes and shapes, thus there are models of small-sized dumper trucks with the size of small passenger trucks, and there are massive dumper trucks similar to 18-wheelers. Take a look at the short list of most popular/used types of dumper trucks:

  • Standard Dump Truck;
  • Transfer Dump Truck;
  • Super-dump Truck;
  • Semi Trailer Bottom Dump Truck;
  • Double And Triple Trailer Bottom Dump Truck;
  • Side Dump Truck.

Operating With Dumper Trucks

Although latest generations of dumper trucks are designed with state-of-the-art features, thus meeting the highest safety standards, still, unwelcome situations such as tipping, collisions and back-up accidents, cannot be excluded.

Dumper trucks are used for both in-road and off-road applications. When on in-road use, dumper trucks drivers have to be extremely attentive, because if the dumper truck unexpectedly collides with another smaller vehicle, like a car - the consequences can be fatal. Do not forget that dumper trucks are heavy vehicles and can cause destroying effects.

Unloading of the material also poses a risk, which is why an operator must always park a dumper truck on a horizontal ground. Otherwise, truck may lose balance which can lead to tipping over.
