7 Underrated Getaway Spots Near Manila

by Shayne Zalameda - Ellry Writer

Traveling to a slightly more obscure location can be quite a challenge but if you are looking for a relaxing getaway or just a simple weekend staycation away from the bustling crowd, these under-the-radar spots near Manila deserve a spot on your things to do.

1. Kinabuhayan Café Bed & Breakfast, Dolores, Quezon

Travel time: 3-3.5 hours

How to Book: Jay Herrera +63 916 2215791 | Facebook

Hidden at the foot of Mt. Banahaw is Kinabuhayan Café, a bed and breakfast place with rustic and homey vibes. Sample a food here, prepared by the owner himself, Chef Jay Herrera. Sip on bottomless pots of Barako coffee; stay and chat a while and disconnect from the rest of the world while on top of a tree house, or in a hammock, and have a pet pig as your company.

2. Nara Hill, Laurel, Batangas

Travel time: 2 hours

How to book: Book via Airbnb

Sitting on top of a hill is a fairly new bed and breakfast place hidden behind luscious and damp trees, plus a swimming pool overlooking the Taal volcano. Opened to the public just last Valentine’s, Narra Hill is perfect for those seeking a quiet and peaceful reprieve away from the noise of cars and air pollution.

3. The Circle Hostel Zambales

Travel time: 2-3 hours

How to book: +63 917 8611929 | Facebook

If you’re seeking to travel to the north for some dose of sun, sand, and waves, The Circle Hostel Zambales might just be for you. The vibe here is different; you could sleep in hammocks, meet new people, or catch some waves. Colorful graffitis are all over the place, and everywhere you look, you’d feel the people’s warmth. The place essentially captures the world without strangers mantra perfectly.

4. Sitio de Amor Farm Resort, San Pablo, Laguna

Travel time: 2.5-3 hours

How to Book: +63 908 8842730; +63 917 5330209 | Facebook

Off a busy main road in San Pablo, Laguna, there’s a farm where you can wander the rows of plants, flowers, and a few endemic birds. Here you could unwind in the infinity pool or merely sit under the shade of dense trees. Book a room sitting on top of a hill and start your getaway. Breathe in nature, all day. During harvest time, you could even pick your very own lanzones and rambutan. How’s that for a weekend escape?

5. Raming’s Tingloy, Batangas

Travel time: 2 hours

How to book: Timothy Marasigan +63 909 9032947

Fancy reserving a humble house all to yourself, plus a shot at a beautiful sunrise, and a boulder beach that is just a few steps away? Then Raming’s is for you. Located on the northeastern tip of Tingloy Island, Raming’s is accessible via boat and tricycle from Mabini Pier in Batangas. Once you reach the site, you’re pretty much on your own—the beach front home doesn’t provide any facilities for camping or leisure activities, neither food, so you bring everything from scratch. It’s a perfectly secluded spot for adventurers who love backpacking.

6. Meteora, Tagaytay

Travel time: 2 hours

How to book: +63 917 8217224 | Facebook

You might have seen it in some pre-nuptial shoots, or probably in some glossy pages of magazines, and might have been wondering where this little piece of Greece could possibly be. Fret not because we’ve got you covered! Situated in a zigzag downward hill of Ligaya drive, in the road leading to Taal, Batangas, is Meteora, a former family retreat place that was converted into a romantic bed and breakfast place. Today, it’s making every visitor’s dream of getting to Greece, without putting a hole in their pockets, a reality.

7. Mi Terraza Resort, San Roque, Antipolo

Travel time: 1.5-2 hours

How to book: +63 917 5338373 | Facebook

Up in the hillside of Grand Heights Road in Antipolo is a Mediterranean building that has a rooftop and an infinity pool overlooking Metro Manila. Catch a flock of birds flying overhead, sip a glass of fresh fruit juice, and sing the latest hits in the videoke machine. Revel in the beauty of nature unfolding right before your eyes while skinny dipping in the pool. Best hours are in the late afternoon, just as the moon rises, and early morning for sunrise.
