The Mercedes-Benz V-Class is a super spacious MPV that offers functionality and stylish attractiveness, impressing with its level of interior comfort and versatility when it comes to utilizing the interior space.
Gazing upon the V-Class from the outside, the Mercedes-Benz design idiom aims to bring out the poise and assurance of this distinctive MPV (multi purpose vehicle) in an impressive way. The exterior is crafted from striking lines and large surface areas, and the expressive front section is defined by a two-louvre radiator trim and LED High Performance headlamps that lend the V-Class its unmistakable appearance by day and by night.
Adding a sporty touch are the large alloy wheels, available as 17 inch or 19 inch specs, while chrome trim elements add a special touch of exterior class.
Recognizing the attraction of individuality for many drivers, the V-class comes with a choice of no less than five standard and seven metallic paint finishes.
If there’s any MPV that can rightly take its place in the luxury Hong Kong auto scene, alongside the top-end sedans, estates and sports models, then it’s Mercedes-Benz’s V-Class. The new models gracing Hong Kong car dealerships and the city’s streets are the V-Class 250BT Long and V-Class 250BT Extra Long, powered by high-torque 4-cylinder diesel engines.
The Stuttgart-based automaker is positioning the V-Class to those seeking a blend of functionality and attractiveness in their MPV. Families, for example, needing a stylish, spacious and comfortable vehicle for shuttling around in and in which to enjoy leisure time.
The V-Class competes against other MPVs in the segment such as the 2015 Toyota Alphard with its more aerodynamic body shape and exterior appearance that Toyota describes as ‘luxurious and valiant’, and the T6 from Volkswagen that succeeds the 11-year-old T5s but while in doing so remains underpinned by the same architecture of the T5.
Affectionately termed a ‘well-being space’ by the Mercedes marketing gurus, the interior of the V-Class features high quality materials, plenty of space and numerous equipment and material selection that is oriented towards the new Mercedes C-Class.
The standard Design interior package gives a sporty feel and includes Comfort seats in Lugano leather in black or crystal grey, nappa leather for the steering wheel and shift lever, trim elements in matt anthracite wave pattern or (optional) high-gloss black piano lacquer look and sports pedals in brushed aluminium.
The optional AVANTGARDE Design interior package offers extra attractiveness, with such features as leather covered armrests in the door panels, rear door paneling in black or silk beige, wood-look trim in high-gloss dark anthracite ebony or (optional) wood-look trim in high-gloss dark brown ash and the upper section of the instrument panel in leather look with decorative stitching.
The AVANTGARDE Exterior Sports package adds visual appeal to the V-Class from the outside, with 19 inch light-alloy wheels, brake callipers with Mercedes-Benz inscription, sports suspension and chrome insert on the bumper.
Cabin appointments include the ambient lighting system with the three colour shades of neutral (white), solar (Bernstein colours) and polar (ice blue) to choose from, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control and a heating air duct to the passenger compartment providing rear passengers with pleasant temperature-controlled air.
Seating comfort is a leading consideration in the V-Class, with swiveling and electrically adjustable Comfort front passenger and driver seats, active seat ventilation and seat heating (optional) for the front passenger and driver seats, and also 4-way lumbar support.
So, too, is space a key factor. The variable seating concept offers versatility; four seats are standard in the rear, while optional three-seat bench seats for the first and second rows in the rear can increase seating for up to five or six passengers. Come the need for a particularly large load space and the rear seats can be completely removed thanks to a seat rail system with quick-release attachment. There’s also the tailgate with separately opening rear window.
The optional Table package adds even more versatility, with a folding, movable table that can be used for eating, working or playing games. Cup holders are located in the sidewalls and nets on the seat backrests provide more storage space. Mobile devices can connect and charge through a 12 V socket.
Expected of a Mercedes vehicle, the V-Class is fitted with a range of safety and assistance systems including standard appointments such as the LED Intelligent Light System with adaptive headlamps that automatically adapt to the driving situation, ATTENTION ASSIST, Crosswind Assist, Parking package with reversing camera and airbags, thorax-pelvis sidebags and windowbags for the driver and front passenger.
Optionals include the PRE-SAFE® preventive occupant protection system that can identify potentially critical driving situations and initiate protective measures and Parking package with 360-degree camera.
With the 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission in the V-Class, the vehicle’s handling characteristics can be adjusted through four drive programs. For highly dynamic driving, the C, S and M programs deliver additional output and torque while in S program the transmission shifts up only at a higher engine speed.
With ride comfort in mind, there are three suspension variants. Comfort mode is designed to provide outstanding comfort in any driving situation, Sports mode delivers a high level of driving dynamics with racy characteristics and AGILITY CONTROL mode with its selective damping system adapts the damping characteristics to the road conditions and driving situation.
