Ninja Gaiden 3 Demo Impressions

Haven't done one of these in a while. Now...for me I saw the reviews and what not for Ninja Gaiden 3 and all I could really think about is "Wow.. This game can't honestly be that bad. I have to check it out for myself." With no cash to actually review it myself, the demo was the next best thing. I think that the small piece that I did play warranted me to write my impressions on the demo.

Basically, from what I saw, Ryu Hayabusa was being framed for the murder of a few victims and with this company coming out of no where saying things like "You will need our help", and so he sits on top of a building getting ready to descend from it. This was a nice little touch and they have that Live button sequence to constantly keep you on your feet.

That was a nice little feature but then I quickly saw in 5 minutes how much they over-saturate the game with it. Every "Final blow" type kill required a button sequence.. and all I could think about is why do I need to do this every time I kill a soldier? Moving on there was a time where I had to kill a soldier which felt like a cut-scene but wasn't. It also gave the illusion that moral choices are existent in the game.. but again.. felt like it wasn't.

As for the graphics, they are pretty standard and what you would come to expect from a current generation game. But there is a problem that I would have to address. Alright, correct me if I'm wrong, for someone who doesn't know what to expect from the game apart from the demo, there were 3 weapons we were able to use. That would be the Sword, The Claws, and the Scythe. Now...from what I heard, in the full game you only have 1 Weapon and that is the Dragon Sword. The extra weapons are DLC that was suppose to be free (according to Team-Ninja's mouth), but instead charge us later.

To me, I have mixed feelings about that. On One hand, it's nice to experience the DLC weapons to feel a sense of variety I'm guessing the publisher was intending to do. On the other hand, for those who didn't read or watch the reviews...they would believe that these weapons you will find in the game, thus becoming as standard. I don't know, I mean they did mention that the demo version would differ from the retail one... so I guess they covered their tracks well.

Final Thoughts on the Ninja Gaiden 3 Demo:

To me, it was an O.K presentation of the game. Would I run out and buy it? when the price drops a little bit then I may reconsider. Also, there is a multiplayer version of the game but of course was not included in the demo. My opinion regarding that is that they should of left out the multiplayer entirely and focused a bit more on the single player. I know I say that as if I played the full game but really, it should give you a taste of whats to come, and I felt there wasn't a taste to begin with. Would I recommend this to others? I would say a rental at best, but nothing past that. I'm sorry Team Ninja, you gave us wonderful Ninja Gaiden games in the past (1 and 2), not for just the stylish gameplay but actually represented a challenge to us. The third installment, while has an AMAZING story concept, drop the ball in way of execution.

Street Talk

Being a huge Ninja Gaiden fan myself I too was appalled at how bad this installment was compared to the others. At one point during a large wave of enemies I decided to only tap the attack button (nothing else, not even move), and I still leveled everyone with no harm done to me. Where did the challenge go?

My point exactly...I didnt even experience the full game and the demo showed me that it was going to be a letdown :/
