If you're considering getting Mass Effect 2 for PC or Xbox, you might be wondering about some of the features of this game.  Mass Effect 2 is definitely one of the best games of Bioware's impressive arsenal, and shouldn't be missed by any serious gamer.

The most impressive parts of Mass Effect 2

The best parts of this game are undoubtedly the storyline and character development.  Bioware never ceases to create engaging, realistic characters - even if half of them are aliens.  There's a depth to these characters that you don't see in many other games.

Perhaps this is due to the great voice acting, but there are so many facets to each of these characters that they feel like real people there with you on each mission.

The storyline in this game is also very good - more solid than Mass Effect 1.  You go on missions to pick up each character as their dossier is revealed to you by an important guide.  From there, you complete loyalty missions which require you to help each character out, thereby gaining their loyalty.

There are also romances available if you're interested in romancing either male or female characters in the game; depending on the gender of your own player character, you'll have different romance options available.

There are also numerous achievements you can unlock and share, if you use a system like Steam to show off your achievements.

The downsides of the game

If you're looking for a nonstop action game or a really solid FPS, I wouldn't suggest this game because it's too story-oriented.  There are a lot of slower points where you're driven by the dialogue.  If you enjoy complex moral choices and an extremely detail-oriented backstory in your games, this one's for you.

If not, I wouldn't recommend it.

Otherwise there aren't a whole lot of downsides to Mass Effect 2.  If you've played the first game, you pretty much know what to expect.  It's a great deal more graphically impressive than the first game, and the character development has been significantly improved.

One last thing I would say about this game is that if you want to know what happens to certain characters like Garrus, Liara, and Wrex, you'll be able to learn.  Mass Effect 2 takes the storylines of earlier characters and develops them even more.

You learn little snippets about each of these characters - as well as several others, both new and old - which make them come to life.  There's also a ton of DLC available for the game if you want improved weapons and armor, or if you'd like to explore the Shadow Broker's lair.
