Drawing is very important and complicated form of art. Man has always been an ardent seeker of beauty in its subtle and varied manifestations. This has prompted him to draw and paint diverse forms of flora and fauna, gods and men, rivers and mountains, the entire Universe. To learn how to draw a realistic wolf one should take time to understand the initial phase of drawing that is to have deep understanding of wolf’s appearance, so that framework is solid and accurate, as it is very important to the success of final drawing.
Before you start learning how to draw a realistic wolf, you'll need the right ground - paper, board or canvas. A good quality drawing paper is a necessity so that you can have a solid base to draw upon. To begin learning how to draw a realistic wolf, we need to establish the features of wolf. Study the wolf's face and understand its most basic shapes. Use lines to center and properly space all of the major elements. Keep on refining the features of the wolf's face and look for important changes of plane, areas of tone, and adding definition to the wolf's ears, eyes and nose. Remember this step may just be a rough sketch, and that is okay, you will continue to refine the features of the wolf as you continue to draw it.
The next step in learning how to draw a realistic wolf is to apply tone using dark pencils. Dark pencils should be applied with paper towel—black on the nose and markings and a mid-tone over all as shadow and to carry texture and highlights applied later on with erasers.
When placing the mid-tone leave some of the white of the paper which will represent the white fur of the wolf .The next step is to draw the wolf's fur. First of all lay in the dark details in the eyes and nose. Then with lighter strokes draw fur layers around the wolf's face. Now, using a rubber eraser, pick out some of the highlights around the face.
Use pencil to darken some shadow area on the right side of the wolf's muzzle and face. Then use pencil on the facial markings. Now develop some of the details on the wolf's eyes and ears. While learning how to draw a realistic wolf it should be ensured that fur texture along the side of the face is developed. To complete the wolf drawing, just add some highlights and whiskers. Using an eraser pick out the highlights in the wolf's fur, working directionally. With eraser and pencil add the whiskers. Now we know how to draw a realistic wolf and have a realistic wolf drawing.
