I was on the outskirts of this storm in Southern Ontario and we had power outages from that Dirty B….Sandy. Not enough to disrupt life as we know it but a wakeup call as to how dependent we are on electricity.
This storm knocked out power to millions (8.5 million) at the height of the storm, since then the power has come back on for many people and just in time. For thousands (1.4 million Nov.5/2012) the reality is that their power is still out and here comes the cold weather, not to mention another storm.
The repercussions of not having electricity in your home are felt immediately, no lights and no heat it is now November. How long will you have running water, can you flush your toilet were those batteries from last year, the importance of electricity in our lives is insurmountable.
It may be another ten days or more before they will have all the power restored to the entire area, ten days, what do you do.
We as humans have lost our way along the road of life I think, we forget to fast, we are too fast to lean and make it easy for ourselves.
I hear of the complaints that are coming out of this “FrankenStorm” that the recovery is to slow they have left us alone and help is to slow in the coming. Reality has to set in here at some point; the authorities tracked a monster storm to hit the area and issued certain areas along the east coast to be evacuated, for all others to bunker down and get ready here it comes.
They were not doing this to scare anyone, it was to protect people from the coming weather bomb, and some ignored the warning and stayed. I don’t think they were ready as they thought they were for the oncoming of this storm and the aftermath that it brought.
Imagine the undertaking it is to get the power back on for all these people, getting water and medical attention to everyone in need. We are talking about millions of people being affected and look how far they have come in restoring order and some normality to life. As they clean up and move forward with what needs to be done.
To the ones still waiting for the chance to get back to normal the reality is very real, can the authorities help everyone in time for the next storm and the weather. It would be a nice thought but the chances are no, someone is going to be left out in the cold, literally.
Is it going to be you that is left out in the cold is it your area, or your town that is going to be last someone is always last, it may suck but it’s the truth.
Instead of the ridicule and the energy that is put into complaining should we perhaps fend for ourselves, what a novel idea, they warn us and we get prepared.
Now with all that has happened in the last little while here in North America, how wise is it to rely on electricity as our savor and the all mighty path to living in the 21st century.
If the power goes out in your area or let’s say North America how will you survive. We as a society cannot lean on someone else for our own safety 24 hours a day 365 days a year you must be able to take care of you and others in your care.
In the case of disasters we need to be able to survive until authorities can get to you, and that means without electricity.
Can you live without electricity; think about it because you just might have too…
Indeed, Hurricane Sandy did lots of damage. When I arrived in NJ after being injured in the worplace my sister and her husband were still out of power at their business. Their generator ran the computers but otherwise they were in the dark and cold. Brr 38 degrees in their warehouse. Struggling in their business, they'd already long ago laid off all their employees, so it was just the two of them. Hard to lose holiday season! Hurricane Sandy went splat for them. (I'd gotten a job which I was so excited about but got injured there).
What will we do without power, I think we rely on it to much for our everyday life's....what did we do before computers how did we survive....?? I think Sandy hit a lot of folks hard and unprepared....next time....be prepared...I think the next time will be more frequent....times they are a changing (flash back the 60's lol)...thanks Cynthia...
Thanks Shawn disasters are gettiing bigger and are happening a bit more often than they ever have, I have my house ready....
Many people are buying generators. The people who have them have it a little bit easier. The biggest problem is for people who live at the beach. Their homes are destroyed. I used to want a beach house. Now, not so sure, unless it is high up above water level. The wind is a problem where power lines are concerned, but flooding is awful. There's a nor'easter forecast for today, and people are still without power.
Yes another storm is on its way, could the timing be worse.....? I agree having beach front property might not be what it use to be....With all of this going down it is more important than ever to have that plan of attack in case the worst scenario....hydro our best freind or demon in the shadows???? thanks for the comments Joan....take care the best way you can...stay safe....need warmth have sex....that will raise the body temp.....:)
I hope the sex warmed you up...:) It has been a colder than usual Fall here about 5-10 degrees colder.....My firm believe Joan is that this is nothing.......it is bad yes and it is disrupting lives in many places, I agree....but....As you say weather patterns are very strange, for years now....our spring is now about 2-4 weeks early for the last few years now.....now weather patterns have changed to climate change....two different animals....I as you have seen storms grow in intesity over the years and the size of the storms at times are just massive....Vancouver two earth quakes in the last two weeks 7.7 just yesterday 6.6 Gutamalea 7.4.... earthquakes are very normal....but will a massive one hit the pacific ring of fire......add it up Joan disasters seem to be more common than they use to be and more intense....heat, floods, and even cold....it is nuts......and by the way it is the first day it is sunny, but cool.........:) Keep the best you can Joan.....
