“frankenstorm” It May Go Down In History

If it was just a Category One hurricane it might not make such a wave in the media, but it is not and it’s making a lot of waves in the media and will for the next 4-5 days or more. Being dubbed “The Frankenstorm” partly because of Halloween and partly because the predictions are frightening.

Three storms on a collision course Hurricane Sandy coming from tearing up the Caribbean, a winter storm from the west and Arctic Air from the North, creating for what many are calling one of the biggest systems in history.

Meteorologists predict that the three storm fronts will collide over New York City and New Jersey, and possibility reaching as far inland as Southern Ontario. I live in Hamilton Ontario and New York City is a 12 hour drive for me approximately 1000 or so kilometers, that some storm.

Every time there is a storm of this magnitude right away they want to compare it to storms of the past like the “Perfect storm” in 1991 that caused 200 million dollars in damage, reports say this will be bigger.

The biggest storm on record was the storm known as the” Long Island Express” that hit New England in 1938 and killed 800 people. Part hurricane and part nor-easter the storm was once thought as the worst storm on record.

That is until 2012 and “Frankenstorm” comes rolling in and is predicted to possibly cause in the upwards of 1 billion dollars in damage and untold human suffering.

Talking to a friend in Florida today he mentioned that hurricane Sandy was a big bad storm but nothing to get excited about, after all it’s Florida. Look out New York and New Jersey they seem to be directly in the path of all three fronts.

All the way up and down the Atlantic Seaboard and far inland officials are warning everyone to heed the warning and take this storm very seriously. The severity of the system and the predicted path is said to be unprecedented.

To those that are not heeding the warning of your officials and are not going to evacuate to be deviant to the end, I have two words, Good Luck.

I have been to weather sites and read articles and reports on this storm have sat patiently and watched the news reports on Television. I look out my window and see one part of the system that washed out part of the Trans Canada Highway in Wawa Ontario passing overhead on its way to meet Sandy in New York and can’t help to feel for the people that will be affected the most.

I myself have never been through a hurricane or tornado, even though Ontario knows the destructive force of Tornadoes ever year.

I am no hero and maybe not the brightest bulb on the tree, but when everyone and everywhere is warning you that something big is on its way and to take precautions, I listen. I was at my local hardware store this morning stalking up on batteries and cooking fluid for the Coleman. Have filled my water containers and battened down the hatches on the outside.

Disasters happen and there is not much we can do about it but to prepare the best way we can. Get your supplies ready and put your plan into play and stay safe. Better yet go visit that long lost relative way inland like Manitoba or Chicago, enjoy the trip knowing you will be safe.

I say this with all sincerity be careful, heed the warnings and take this storm very seriously. If it is a dud and it sizzles out, good for us, that would be nice but I really wouldn’t count on it.

yes it was, it really never did much damage around here, some but not wide spread, I have neither, that was the closest I have come to hurricane, toranadoes terrify me, more than all natural disasters, Ontario gets around 20-30 a year usually not a big deal....but once in a while it will go through a town and do damage....being preapared is the key...thanks Shawn

I live in Connecticut, and it's already started here. Many people have lost power already, and it's only just begun. We are tucked in with good food, lots of prayers, electricity so far, and high hopes that Sandy won't be as bad as they say. Take care of yourself Tim. You're wise to heed the warnings.

Hope all is fine for you and your area Joan, a day later and Southern Ontario got it a bit but not that bad, some power outoage for some but nothing significant, unfortunalty a person died in Toronto by debris.....Many in the States are without power last I heard it was like 2.5 million and I am sure it will grow. Looks like NewYork got it good...I am glad I heeded the warnings, it did not turn out bad for us here, but I was ready....take care Joan....The Sun Will Shine Again....:)
