Are you thinking of creating a website for dummies? Are you a dummy yourself? Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be rude or anything, heck, I was a dummy myself when I first needed to create my first website. And you know what? It's perfectly OK to feel the way you do. We only get better the more practice we have at something. The good news is that there are options available where you can start dabbling with your web skills from today.
Now I know what you are thinking, can I actually have a website and not be a technical genius when getting started? The simple answer to that is...of course you can! I would like to share with you some of the best ways you can begin to learn more about how creating a website for dummies is simpler than you think
Truth is, most of us when we first get our toes wet on the web, we hear words such as HTML, CSS, PHP. These words can sure be quite scary, can't they? What in the world do all those things even mean? Let's quickly touch on that...
HTML and CSS is the code that makes your websites show the designs that you see when you visit them. PHP on the other hand is mainly referred to as "back-end" code. In other words, its code that you don't necessarily see, but still performs a specific function. But anyway, I digress, let's get back to how you can begin creating a website for dummies of your own.
Don't worry, you don't need to know squat of coding! With the web having grown in leaps and bounds over the last few years, beginners just like you and me can create professional looking websites in a couple of hours, if not minutes. You see, there are many web properties that you can use to either create a fully fledged website, to even a basic stand-alone webpage that solely focuses on a specific topic that you want to talk about.
Let me show list some of the free options available when creating a website for dummies:
Blogger: A blogging platform that allows you to create posts. This option is a good choice if you want to have a web property that is more personal and low-key.
WordPress: One of the best free blogging platforms around. WordPress is another fantastic option as it not only allows you to create posts, but you can also discuss more broad topics by creating pages, and adding social media widgets to them - which allows you to share your content quite easily.
Weebly: Drag and drop functionality, easy to use and more for those that would like to have a website vs. a blog.
Now remember, free is free for a reason. If you decide to begin creating your very own website on one of these properties then consider that you do not own the content. This means if in future your content violates the websites terms of service or other policies, then there exists the possibility that your website or webpage may be taken down and permanently deleted.
On this note, always consider backing up your website (your content) on your own machine, should the above ever occur.
Now if you're looking to develop a more professional online business, then I would recommend you choose a paid service. Even if you are creating a website for dummies you should still think of the bigger picture as well as the goals you would like to achieve.
Usually when you hear about paid services you immediately turn away and think - "do I have to pay for it?". No, you don't, is the simple answer. But look at it this way, if you needed to get from A to B, sure you could rent a car, though eventually the cost for keeping up with the repayments would far exceed the overall cost of having a car that you own. What I'm trying to say is that you need to think long-term. That's where having your own domain, your own hosting and owning your own content comes into play.
There are services that are able to give you a quality solution. A solution to have your professional website created in just a few minutes, give you the added bonus that all your hosting expenses are covered for as well, and the overall installation process is easy and quick to follow.
I have used a service called WordPress Express which essentially takes care of all that messy stuff for me. All I do, is buy my domain (under $9USD a year), then enter the required details into the WordPress system, click the installation button, and within a couple of seconds I have a fully powered WordPress website, which has plug-ins included, is SEO ready, and good for me to start adding all my content straight away.
Remember, creating a website for dummies can be a simple process and as discussed above, you do have options that are free as well as paid. Think about where you would like to take your online presence, what you are trying to achieve and how much time you would like to invest into having your own successful web property.
