Top 10 Reasons Why Web Projects Fail - Reasons 8 And 9

8. No budget after site launch

How to fail

This point resonates with the mistake number 6. It applies to more than 50% of cases. For some unexplained reasons website owners are very passionate about building the website, however after it is completed they lose passion and enthusiasm just leaving their

site there. No budget for the site promotion, no budget for the site maintenance, no budget for its expansion.

How to succeed

In order to succeed clients have to make sure they have enough patience to sustain the website after its launch. Once it is launched they should have enough resources to market and promote it. Clients have to analyze the performance of the website, make changes and if necessary be ready to start from scratch. Running out of money is one of the most common reasons for the failure of start-ups.

Reason #9. When the site is built the project is completed

How to fail

In most cases there is a strong belief that all which needs to be done is just building a site. Created once, website can serve one's business needs for years. Customers often think that there is no need to update anything because their business remains the same, nothing changes. Updating is an additional cost and time spent. But how long is the website going to live with such an approach? Not much. Internet is developing very rapidly and needs constant changes and improvements. Customers should at least try to go with the flow and keep up with the changing environment.

How to succeed

By no means is it an attempt to persuade spending hours thinking what can be added to the website. It would be unwise to think that adding some odd and unimportant facts would be suitable. Updating the website does not necessarily have to be daily, however it has to be regular, at least once per few months. Try to update content when the business experiences certain changes. Clients have the right to know about it. In fact, clients can sooner or later get bored with the site they see each time they visit. It would be a good idea to add some nice images to make the website look slightly different.

All in all, it is not a case to postpone updating the website, and remember: if you are not interested in the website anymore, so aren’t the visitors. Website should develop in line with business development, otherwise it will gradually cease to attract visitors and lead to failure.

Yes, that's true. But to tell the truth it is a bit difficult for me at times to choose the most suitable image when I publish certain article. I try to use those, created by our designers, but I can't ask them to design an image to every single article I write and publish. So many projects in progress, you know. But images are really extremely important and I guess I should try and ask them to design images for me a bit more often. I hope it doesn't bring them too much trouble.
