How Cloud Computing Could Benefit Your Online Business

Computing in the cloud, or cloud computing however you want to say it, is when your basic computer with all of its programs, storage, applications and processing power, completely exists at another location far away. Then, you use whatever local computer and Internet connection available to access that far away computer to do all of your online work. At your local location all you need is the bare-bones of monitor, keyboard and low speed Internet connection, in order to remotely control a super powerful, incredibly connected, fully loaded computer, with massive storage. The remote computer is called the cloud, and it may be all the rage for the future, plus it could be just what your business needs today.

One of the greatest advantages of computing in the cloud, is that no matter where you are on the planet all of your applications, files, storage capacity and secure passwords, are all safe and sound in the cloud. You can be vacationing in Tahiti, or sitting on white sand beaches in the Third World and not worry about the danger of all your information being stolen in your laptop. So if security is a primary concern of yours, the cloud could be advantageous for you.

A second great advantage of computing in the cloud is that these remote computers tend to have incredibly high bandwidth connections, so no matter what you do, or from where to do it, you don't need to worry about how much bandwidth you have and whether or not you're going to run out of your daily connection bandwidth. Your cloud computer is connected straight into the juggler, with unlimited high-speed bandwidth, and typically has astronomical storage capacity as well. An example would be, you could download a hundred YouTube videos to your cloud computer, change titles and audio files on all of them, then re-upload them to YouTube all while using an Internet connection equal to dial-up at your location.

In a business sense another great advantage of computing in the cloud is your business doesn't need to invest in massive infrastructure like servers, storage, and Internet connections, because it's already there. According to TierPoint, if your business needs to double its Internet usage and storage tomorrow, it can usually be done with an email and zero added investment. Plus, cloud computing is so cheap compared to owning the equipment and having it connected yourself, most likely the added expense of doubling your business won't double your cloud computing monthly fee.

So if you're in an online business that either has many remote locations, traveling salespeople, or needs to double in size tomorrow, cloud computing is something you should check into and learn about.
