Maid Honor Speech Examples - Don\'t Embarrass Yourself

You just found out you've been named maid of honor. I'm sure the emotions were high and you were very excited at the time. Although still honored, you didn't realize how much work it was at the time. You've got to go dress shopping, manage the other bridesmaids, organize the gifts, and be on 24/7 standby for the bride as she is going through an emotional roller coaster. On top of that, you have to give a speech.

Giving a speech can be the most daunting of the tasks, as you will be the center of attention instead of the bride. And what you say can embarrass yourself and the bride. So it is imperative that you prepare and practice the speech. So to help you I'm going to give you different types of speech examples.

The maid of honor speech examples are going to be:

  1. Sentimental Speech
  2. Sentimental/Funny Speech
  3. Funny Speech

These are the three most commonly used toasts. However, there are some people who have rapped their maid of honor speech. If you're the person who enjoys doing creative things, that may be for you.

Sentimental Speech

This is the speech where you can't go wrong as long as you speak from the heart. Here is the sentimental speech guideline:

  1. Introduce yourself and how long you've known the bride
  2. Short Story
  3. Why you're glad
  4. Wish them well

First you introduce yourself, and explain how and how long you know the bride. Pretty self explanatory. Then you tell a touching and meaningful wedding story that means a lot to you. Maybe about how one time she had to bail on a date to come pick you up because you needed help. Then from the story you go into why that makes you happy that she is your best friend. And finally, you wish them happiness and a long life.

Sentimental/Funny Speech

This speech follows the same general guidelines as the sentimental speech, but you include a funny story that ends up being touching. Maybe about how when you guys were kids she stood up for you against a bully, even though the bully was 3 times her size. Despite that, she ended up chasing him all over the park saying no one messes with her friends and family. Then from there you bring to a touching part. Going off that you can say that she's always been there for you and that you couldn't wish for a better friend.

Funny Speech

This is where you keep the sentimental to a minimal. You tell a couple funny wedding stories and jokes end with a couple of sentences, such as.

I couldn't imagine a better friend to do all these shenanigans with. And I wish you and your new husband a happy and long marriage.
