When you begin writing your maid of honor speech, there are several different things you need to factor in. First off, what are you trying to do with your speech? First thing to realize is that it is going to differ for each individual, so I am going to cover a wide variety of speech types you can give.
Are you trying to show your adoration towards the bride, by telling a touching story. By wishing them a happy marriage together, and a long life.This may be the type of speech for you if the bride has helped you through a tough time or helped you in any other serious way which you are seriously thankful for her. Or this may be the type of speech you wish to give, if you are not one to draw too much attention to yourself, and if you are not the one to crack jokes. This can also be the type of speech for you if you are a little nervous delivering the speech, as telling a joke requires effective delivery. One thing to remember here, is to speak from the heart. There is no way you can go wrong, if you speak from the heart.
Or are you the one to make a couple of jokes to liven up the mood, while telling a touching story. This may be the way for you if the bride has helped you through a tough time, or in any other way, has seriously helped you and you are seriously thankful for her. However, if you are not one that easily shares emotional feelings or show thanks, and you can manage to let your pride take a little hit, then this is the perfect time to tell her how much she means to you. This will be the perfect wedding speech. The bride probably knows that you are not the type to show your emotions, so when you do say something touching; it will mean that much more to her, especially on such a big day. However, you get to recover some of your pride by throwing in a couple of jokes. It is a win win for everyone.
Or if you are the comedian of the group, you can go full out and give a funny speech. This requires a little bit more preparation for the speech, and you may want to ask for help writing your wedding speech, as this can be sometimes a thin line. I'm sure that you and the bride have had several great times together, but not all of them may be appropriate to share at a wedding. So here ask input from friends and family on what your thinking of saying. But you are really the only that knows how far you can take it.
