The Wedding Ceremony: The Whole Moment You Have Been Working Toward
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

The bride starts planning her wedding as soon as she meets the man she thinks might be the one. She has a vision in her head of the perfect wedding gown, the one that will make her feel like a pretty princess the minute she slips it over her head. She knows who the maid of honor and the bridesmaids will be. She knows who the flower girl is. She even knows who she hopes the best man will be, (wink wink). But, for all the vision and dreams, for all the planning and organization, she may be forgetting one important detail: the wedding ceremony!

Make sure that your wedding ceremony is not treated just as an afterthought. Give it the consideration and careful thought that it fully deserves. By all means keep the groom in the decision making loop, it is just as much his ceremony as yours, after all. Do not just tell him how things will be, ask his opinion and listen when he speaks. Discuss what kind of ceremony you would like, including the music and the vows. Do you want to have a more somber ceremony or a little more light-hearted? Will you write your own vows or do you prefer to use some variation on more traditional ones?

Who will perform your ceremony is just as important a decision as anything else. If you are not a very religious or spiritual couple, you may feel uncomfortable holding a ceremony in a church with a religious figure presiding over it. If that is the case, then consider a more non-denominational or civic wedding performed by a non-religious person. It does not have to be as utilitarian as a quick wedding at city hall, but it does not have to be overly religious either.

Your ceremony should be what you think it should be- with the right words, the right attitudes and the right feelings. Your wedding ceremony is the most important part of the entire day, so make sure that you approach it that way. Write out and practice vows until you find the best representation of your relationship and how you feel about one another. Time the ceremony out and see if you feel that it runs on too long or is a bit too brief. If either is the case, then either add or subtract elements. Don’t let your ceremony be just second to the pretty dress and the flowers, this is the kickoff to your entire marriage, so give it your full attention.
