5 Tips For Long Term Weight Loss

The reason why most diets fail is not that people don't lose weight. It's that they can't seem to keep the weight from creeping back up. Many people who go on diets do see success, but they may end up even fatter than they were before they started their weight loss plan.

To help you avoid this fate, and the disappointment and discouragement that follows, I've come up with a number of simple tips that you can follow. If you do, I believe that you have a good chance to achieve a long term weight loss.

1. Change your habits, not your actions – Yes, you can lose weight by cutting down your calories for a few weeks or giving up junk food... until you lose weight. However, these results are not likely to sustain themselves.

If all you're doing is changing your actions for a limited time, then you will simply go back to doing what got your overweight in the first place. You have to change your habits and this change needs to be permanent. You need to lead a healthy life. You can't go back to your previous bad habits.

2. Create a workout schedule and stick to it – Working out needs to become a part of your regular routine. For you to achieve long term results, you need to be training 3 times a week at least and you have to avoid missing workouts. One way to do that is to create a training schedule a month in advance.

In this schedule you will write down all of the workouts you plan on doing with the precise time in which they're to be performed. Once you have everything written down you're more likely to stick to your workout plan.

3. You don't have to use a very low calorie diet plan. I realize that it may be tempting to try a system or method that is supposed to help you lose body weight very quickly. Everyone wants to lose weight as fast as possible.

However, very low calorie diets need to be used with caution. You have to understand that these are not programs that you can use forever. The calorie restriction is simply too big.

The additional danger is that going on a low calorie eating plan for too long may cause your metabolism to decrease. This will make long term weight loss harder to achieve.

4. Get a workout buddy – Working out regularly can be a challenge. You don't want to start missing workouts because it can quickly become a habit that will be hard to shake. This is why I recommend that you workout with a friend. This friend will help you to stick to your workout plan.

5. Realize that it's never over – This may not be what you want to hear, but the truth is that staying healthy and lean is a lifelong project. It is something you need to continue working on even after you lose all the weight that you want. Once you have this long term perspective, you will find that you're living a healthier and better life.
