Burning Fat Diet

A burning fat diet is the total antithesis of the typical Western diet today. If you take a walk through any city centre shopping mall you are greeted with numerous vendors trying to tempt you with burgers, fries, fried chicken, donuts...The list could go on but you get the point! We have become accustomed to consuming more refined carbohydrates and sugars than ever before. Although governments are starting to take note of the obesity ticking time bomb, for large parts of the population the term healthy diet is synonymous with the lentil eating freaks who knit their own hemp sweaters.

Any diet which consists of foods which have a high thermic value can be considered a burning fat diet. The thermic value of a food is the amount of energy your body uses to process it – energy used up in chewing, swallowing, digesting and so forth. If you have been on a diet and have managed to shed a few pounds, but still seem to have that spare tire around your waist, consider taking the following steps to alter your diet:

1. Eat less and frequently. Starving yourself isn’t the way to go if you want to lose fat. In addition to being bad for your health, it causes your body to go into survival mode and conserve its stores of energy. Eating smaller meals about five or six times a day, will keep your body’s metabolic rate optimised for maximum fat burning.

2. Eat more protein. Yes, I’m afraid the lentil eating freaks have a point when it comes to fat burning diets. Protein rich foods have a high thermic value so the body uses a relatively large amount of energy when digesting these foods. Food containing high amounts of refined carbohydrates such as white bread and sugary foods have a low thermic value and should be avoided if you wish to diet for fat loss.

3. Taking regular exercise in addition to your burning fat diet, is important in order to achieve your fat loss goals. Your intake of calories has to be less than the amount you use so getting down the gym or taking up some other form of physical exercise is important. Doing a combination of cardio exercises and strength training is important to gain muscle and burn fat. Adding lean muscle to your body helps optimise your metabolism for maximum fat burning effectiveness.

4. Drink plenty of water. Water helps the kidneys to function properly in flushing the toxins from your body. When you are dehydrated, the kidneys are less effective in performing this process and the liver helps out by taking up the slack. As a consequence, the liver has less capacity for performing its functions, one of which is to metabolise fat stores into energy.

Unlike many dieting programs, a burning fat diet isn’t necessarily difficult to implement into your daily life. It simply requires you to think a little more about what you are putting into your body. Avoiding processed foods which are full of refined carbohydrates and eating more often but in smaller proportions, will be a big help in burning off the body fat when combined with regular exercise.
