Cycling For Weight Loss

What time is it?

It will officially be summertime in a few days and it is time to get out and enjoy the fantastic weather. If you're trying to lose weight, cycling for weight loss is one great way to do it.

In many Cities throughout the country cycling is gaining as much momentum as a cyclist going down the alps in the Tour de France. Cities such as Columbus, OH have been marking new bike paths on City streets as well as continuing to build their bikeway infrastructure. There are miles upon miles of paths sprouting up everywhere. Which is a good thing for the residents of these cities.

Employers Employers are urging their employees to get fit, encouraging cycling for weight loss. What's in it for them? They get healthier employees which in turn lowers health care costs. It is a win-win situation for employers and employees.

What's in it for you? A better question might be what's not in it for you. First of all if you're sitting at home not doing anything, you're totally missing out. Have you heard the term, "it's as easy as riding a bicycle?" That's one of the big reasons why riding a bicycle is great. What is one present that kids everywhere want at some point in their life? A bicycle. I remember as a kid asking for a 10 speed bicycle for Christmas one year. I walked out of my bedroom Christmas morning thrilled to see the bicycle I asked for and I couldn't wait to ride it. I had to wait through winter and as soon as it got to be 50 degrees I took it out. Bicycling was my mode of transportation until I hit 16 years old. Little did I know that getting around was also helping me to keep fit and burn those calories from all the pizza I ate as a kid.

"It's as easy as riding a bicycle," is not a myth. Since a huge percentage of kids get bikes as kids almost everyone knows how to ride a bike. There is little to no training involved. It may take a little bit of practice to get reacquainted with the coordination needed for cycling, but once you've taken care of that you're back in business. Even that probably will take only a block or two for most. Oh, and I mentioned coordination, cycling will improve your coordination. Bonus!

Just plain fun. You will find that you won't regret cycling for weight loss. Once you start, you will probably realize some of the other benefits. One of the greatest benefits is that it is just fun. What keeps a lot of people from exercising?They just don't enjoy it. Cycling for weight loss won't cause that problem. Riding through your neighborhood while getting exercise is very enjoyable. It is even more enjoyable if you have kids. It is something that your kids can do with you and most people live within riding distance of a local park or baseball field, tennis court or other place to be active.

What else? What else do you get out of cycling for weight loss? You will burn calories galore, up to 300 per hour if you ride steadily. You will build muscles which helps you burn more calories. You will increase your endurance and cardiovascular fitness and be able to become more and more physically active with less and less strain on your body.

Say goodbye to your troubles. Well, cycling for weight loss won't cause all of your problems to disappear, but one of my favorite advantages of riding a bicycle is that it is a great stress reliever. If you are under a lot of stress, bicycling will be great for that problem. It will help you to relax and take your mind off your daily worries.

If you are trying to lose weight or are just looking for an outlet for stress, cycling for weight loss will help you in your journey for healthy weight loss along with being a great diversion from your everyday worries. You will burn calories, build muscles and enjoy being outside when you are cycling for weight loss. Give it a try.
