If you are one of the millions of people who are plagued by the dreaded spare tire, I'm so glad you have found this article on a diet to lose belly fat. When you have extra pounds around the middle, it is difficult to find clothes that fit you correctly, sit on the floor, play with your kids, do sports, and can even interrupt intimate encounters. To find the correct diet to lose belly fat, you first need to figure out why you are gaining and holding the weight around your middle.

People with stomach fat fall into three categories: stress fat, fat fat, and post-pregnancy fat. Really, the best diet to lose belly fat is the same for each, but the techniques used may be different according to why the fat is there in the first place.

The first thing we'll talk about is stress fat. This primarily affects women, but some men may experience it as well. If you have a moderate percentage of body fat and most of it is on your stomach, then stress may be the culprit. When your body experiences stress it produces a hormone called Cortisol. The area around your midsection has more Cortisol receptors than anywhere else in your body, causing all the hormone released to settle in that area, and thus increases the amount of fat that accumulates there. To help get rid of the belly bump, try taking at least 15 minutes per day to de-stress, get 8 hours of sleep per night (try not to do much more), and focus on restoring balance to your life. Also, eating avacados, nuts (pecans are best), and seeds will help reduce this fat.

Now, if you are just simply fat all over, but you find that your belly is the most obtrusive part of your body, you will need to find a diet program that incorporates or pays special attention in the diet to lose belly fat. You may also want to focus on specific core exercises to strengthen your abs so that while you shed pounds, your stomach will emerge toned and strong.

Post-pregnancy belly fat is a different animal altogether. Your muscles are stretched from carrying the baby, and your skin is also stretched out. While finding a diet to lose belly fat will help you get rid of some of the excess weight, you will have to focus most carefully on abdominal exercises. Crunches, sit-ups, and side crunches are your best bet for getting the lax muscles back in shape, and will also eventually tighten the skin on your stomach. You may also want to try a skin cream designed to tone and even out the skin. Look for something with cayenne pepper, cat's claw, or tiger's herb in the ingredient list.
