Diets For Quick Weight Loss

There are many diets for quick weight loss out there. Some of them are quite nutritionally sound, but most that promise quick weight loss are downright dangerous.

We live in a world where quick is seen as a positive thing - quick food, quick access to all sorts of consumer goods through quick credit, so diets for quick weight loss are also seen as the ideal.

When people are overweight or obese, it doesn't happen overnight, it usually takes years. So how can we expect to lose weight quickly and dramatically. Fortunately or unfortunately it needs time and the more a person needs to lose the longer it will take.

In some ways it is unfortunate that weight loss needs to take time and this is because when a person decides that they need to lose some weight, the thought processes are saying that there is a problem and clearly no-one enjoys having a problem, so a solution is sought that deals with the problem.

There are two main problems with diets for quick weight loss. The first is that it often has a toll on a person's health. How can diets that use weird eating plans possible work long term without leaving a person nutritionally deficient in some way - its just not possible. For instance, a person might eat nothing but chocolate biscuits for a few weeks and maybe lose a few pounds or kilograms, but how sick would they feel? Would it really be worth it - I very much doubt it.

Diets for quick weight loss also have a toll on a person's health because they usually end up more overweight than when they began. Researchers have shown that this happens many times. Sure in the beginning they may lose some or even all of the weight that they want to lose, but once the diet ends, then the weight comes back on and a little bit extra.

The other main problem with diets for quick weight loss, is that they teach the person on the diet, absolutely nothing at all. Weight issues are also lifestyle issues. Ideally when a person is trying to lose weight, they need to learn how to eat better, cook better, become more active. They need to learn how to make positive choices when they go out to eat. Sometimes they need to learn what situations or triggers cause them to overeat. All of this takes time.

It is certainly possible to have some positive results with weight loss fairly early on, but ideally I think the attitude should be one of safe, gradual and permanent weight loss rather than finding a diet that produces fast weight loss in the short term and does nothing for the long term.
