Diets That Work Fast

Let’s face it! When we decide that it’s time to lose weight we want to get it over with as quickly as possible. We want the weight gone now so we can get on with life. We are an instant gratification society, and why shouldn't weight loss be the same. So what is the real deal when it comes to diets that work fast?

I would love to tell you that I have a miracle solution that will remove twenty extra pounds, just like that, by taking a pill. I would love to say that I can fix your unhealthy lifestyle by just having you eat my magic food. Well, I can tell you that but it’s not magic. But you know what I mean. You can’t change your weight without changing your lifestyle. And if you are over weight you got there because of your unhealthy lifestyle! Healthy people don’t have problems with their weight!

So, are there diets that work fast? Sure! There are tons of them. The diet guru’s are lining up to sell them to you! It’s a multi billion dollar a year business. They promise you all kinds of results by taking a pill, using a device, eating their special food, etc. You have seen all the gimmicks. Do they work? Some do. Are they healthy? No!

Have you ever been really sick for weeks, to the point you did not eat much during that period? Perhaps you shed five or ten pounds. Then you thought well maybe being sick wasn’t so bad after all. What about people that have been deprived of food for months. They lost weight too. But doesn’t that weight come back? Of course it does. Hey, there’s one of the diets that work fast! Just get the flu!

When you lose weight by calorie restriction, what really happens to your body? When your body does not get the nutrition it needs for basic bodily functions to occur, it has to get it from somewhere. What your body is looking for is glucose for energy. It normally derives that from the food you eat. When you don’t eat enough food, the body will start to break down your muscles to get the glucose it needs. It could break down fat, and a proper diet will force that result, but severe calorie restriction forces more muscle loss than fat loss

In order for the body to break down lean muscle tissue it has to first get rid of the water in that tissue, so your body sheds it so it can begin the process of muscle break down. Then lean muscle is cannibalized to get glucose for energy. There is your weight loss: water and muscle tissue. On a starvation diet weight loss comes from lean muscle mass and water being lost.

Is this healthy? Absolutely not! You are doing your body harm with this kind of diet. Sure, you can lose weight , but long term the weight will return. With some lean muscle mass gone and metabolism reprogrammed to that of a snail, once you try to eat your normal foods again, weight will return quickly. And no one can maintain a starvation diet forever. Your body won’t allow it.

So are there really diets that work fast? Sure! But now you know that they are just plain unhealthy! Breaking down muscle tissue, including that from your heart, can lead to all kinds of future health troubles. The only way to permanently lose weight is to eat a diet of lean proteins, healthy carbohydrates and fats.

The only way to make permanent change is to slowly start adjusting your meals to include healthy foods to replace the processed ones you were eating. Instead of chips as a snack, have an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Start your lunch or dinner meal with a small green salad loaded with vegetables. Eat slowly. This will give your brain time to receive the signal that food has arrived and you are starting to feel full.

There are so many great tips I can share with you to make weight loss easier, and healthy too! It’s a slow process though. Quick weight loss is not the way to go! Being over weight did not occur over night and the weight will not be safely lost that way either. Trust Franz here! There are pictures of Franz before and after I started eating healthfully. I was there too! Don’t fall for diets that work fast. Long term you will only gain the weight back, and probably more. You must learn new healthy habits for permanent weight loss!
