What is weed?

According to Wikipedia weed (also known as cannabis, marijuana, ganja, among several other names) refers to any number of preparations of the Cannabis plant intended for use as a psychoactive drug or for medicinal purposes. The word marijuana comes from the Mexican Spanish word, marihuana. According to the United Nations, weed is the most widely used illicit substance in the world.

When you hear that question you are almost instaneously inclined to say yes it does. However, this is actually contrary to the fact. Weed does not directly affect weight loss or gain. It is known to stimulate the appetite of people who use it regularly. People who eat more because of this may gain weight. People who stop using weed and stop eating as much due to a reduced appetite may lose weight. Weed Can Make You Lose Appetite when not smoked or can make you too lazy to make food when smoked too often. A research was done in John's Hopkins University School of Medicine to determnine the effects of smoking/or not smoking weed, and this was the study:

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Six adult male research volunteers, in two groups of three subjects each, lived in a residential laboratory for 13 days. All contact with the experimenter was through a networked computer system and subjects' behaviors, including food intake, were continuously recorded. During the first part of the day, subjects remained in continuously recorded. During the first part of the day, subjects remained in their private rooms doing planned work activities, and during the remainder of the day, they were allowed to socialize. Two cigarettes containing active marijuana (2.3% delta 9 THC) or placebo were smoked during both the private work period and the period of access to social activities. Smoked active marijuana significantly increased total daily caloric intake by 40%. Increased food intake was evident during both private and social periods. The increase in caloric intake was due to an increased consumption of snack foods as a consequence of an increase in the number of snacking occasions. There was no significant change in caloric consumption during meals. The principal increase within the category of snack foods was in the intake of sweet solid items, e.g., candy bars, compared to sweet fluid, e.g., soda, or savory solid items, e.g., potato chips. Increases in body weight during periods of active marijuana smoking were greater than predicted by caloric intake alone.

Cravings as one of the side effects

Weed is a drug, it causes cravings as a side effect, when you are high you aren't going to ignore your cravings because your mind is going to be jacked up and you won't care so you are going to eat. Smoking weed does not digest your food faster. It causes a chemical reaction in your brain that makes you hungry. It is a depressant, meaning that it depresses, or slows down your metabolism. You burn less calories, so the only way that you would loose weight would be if you smoked marijuana and didnt eat.

So it is not going to make you loose weight and most people do gain weight because it is very hard to not eat while you are feeling the munchies. You can force yourself not to eat , but it is extremely hard and very unhealthy, you will not loose weight this way.
