Health Problems From Being Overweight

The health problems from being overweight are numerous. If you are overweight, the chances of you developing such health problems like heart diseases and stroke, diabetes, gallbladder disease, cancer and gout are greatly increased. When you are overweight you are also likely to suffer from problems like sleep apnea and osteoarthritis. Aside for the fact that these are life threatening conditions, suffering any of these illnesses just makes life a struggle. Like we don’t have enough to deal with!

More bad news... you don’t need to be vastly overweight to suffer or be at risk of suffering from these debilitating health problems. Getting down to, and maintaining your ideal weight is one of the best ways to prevent such complications from arising. However, losing weight for most of us is not an easy task.

The good news.. if you lose just a few pounds or even just 5% of your overall weight, you can significantly improve your health and lower your chances of developing any of these health risks.

Being overweight simply means that you have a more than normal amount of fat in your body. Your body needs to have a natural balance between all nutrients, namely, water, carbohydrates, fats, proteins and vitamins and minerals. Having too must fat, especially around the waist, can increase your risk of many health problems that are linked to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems and stroke.

Too much fat in the body can result in the following problems:

A rise in blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the bloodstream

A decline in HDL (good cholesterol) and a rise in LDL (ad cholesterol) levels in the blood. HDL cholesterol reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke and the opposite, increases your risk

A rise in blood pressure

A higher chance of inducing diabetes. Diabetes is a common condition that exacerbates other risk factors

How to find out if you are overweight?

This part is easy. To find your healthy weight for height, all you need to do is find out your body mass index (BMI) and your waist circumference in inches. For men, a BMI above 25.0 and a waist measurement getting up around 40 inches (102 cm) or more can be categorized as overweight.

There is plenty of information and inspiration on weight loss and the dangers of being overweight. If you are overweight, your not the only one. Don't do it alone, team up with others with similar issues and you will have halved your problem in an instant.
