My wife and I decided it was time to drop as much of the excess weight we could of we wanted to stay healthy and look good again. We explored many different plans and diets. The one kept catching my attention was the South Beach Diet mostly because it was designed to fight heart disease. This is what I was really looking for so I had to find out "how does the South Beach Diet work?"
What is it?.
South Beach Diet is a diet plan that replaces bad carbs with good carbs and bad fats with good fats. It was created by cardiologist Arthur Agatston, MD, director of the Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center in Miami Beach, Fla in an effort to combat heart disease. It has a two week cleansing cycle where you need to purge all carbs to reset your body's chemistry so to speak.
What does this cleansing do?
By ridding our bodies of all the bad carbs we have been eating we soon find out most of the hunger pains and overeating are actually caused by the very foods we are eliminating. We have been trained to over eat bad carbs and then we spike on the overload of sugar and the very thing we are trying to take care of increases, we get hungry all over again even though we just ate. By detoxing we actually end up eating less, and eating more foods that are good for us. One thing not to worry about is being hungry all the time. This diet is loaded with good snacking, and all of a sudden we start to taste the food we are eating instead of tasting all the preservatives that go in the processed food we no longer are consuming.
But does it work?
Not only does it work it works wonders. The wife started before me and lost 89 pounds in 4 months, and she looks great! I was sold and took the plunge and am now 3 months into it and I have lost 47 pounds and feel like a new person. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels have dropped considerably
I do recommend this diet but I would much rather call it a lifestyle myself instead of a diet, as that is really what you are doing is changing your lifestyle. One thing you must do is read the book first before you start the program, and follow the directions to the letter. Do not get discouraged by the requirements of the first two weeks, they are essential to having success. Good luck!

Congratulations on both of you Shawn! Happy you found a healthier lifestyle to follow
Wow I'm impressed with the weight you have both lost, well done, must be a good way of living....
When you put it that way it is quite frightening the extra weight we carry without actually realising it. I have drop down now to my wanted 110kg, which means I've lost 18kg = 40 odd lbs. I feel so much healthier being back at the weigh I've been most my life. It's nice to see the top button of my trousers again, as well as being able to see my .... when I go to the toilet... lost that stomach bump that I was convinced was lazy muscle...
This is great news Shawn - to change your life and far worth it. It is amazing as to how it affects one's self esteem. Thank you Shawn
Agree totally with AJ. The major difference is lifestyle will last forever whereas diets generally crash sooner or later. I'm really interested in this. Will read up some more.
Oh that's no good then Shawn. I don't do diets that require me to follow them to work! What's with that concept??!! lol ;-)
Interesting article! One of my cousins did this with great success. Thanks for informative good stuff.
Good info and testimony Shawn...might have to look into that one..I could sure stand to loose about 25 at least...
Then I may need to check this out a little further...my daughter could loose a few pounds too...
