How to Get Rid Of Baby Belly Fat  -  Combine These 3 Key Tips

After having a baby, many women struggle with excess tummy fat. Many will try to do exercises targeted at the stomach (such as crunches, sit-ups, etc.), but these types of exercises will not get rid of the fat that sits on top of the abdominals, they will only tone the abs once the fat is gone. So, let's discuss how to get rid of baby belly fat so you can begin your journey to a trimmed and toned tummy. There are 3 things to keep in mind that you need to combine together to get maximum results. Here they are:

1. Nutrition. A healthy diet is essential when wanting to lose belly fat. This should include complex carbohydrates (the good carbohydrates), such as fruits and vegetables. A healthy diet also includes foods that contain healthy fats (poly and monounsaturated fats), such as nuts, olive oil and avocados. Foods high in fiber are very beneficial when wanting to lose weight and fat because they help to keep you feeling full for longer amounts of time and they are also great for your digestive system. Some examples of fiber-rich foods are beans, legumes and many whole grain foods (cereals, breads, etc.). Foods with good amounts of protein are also great because they help to keep energy levels up and they provide satiety as well. Eggs, lean meats and fish are all great examples of protein-rich foods.

When thinking about how to get rid of baby belly fat, keep portion control in mind. You don't want to eat until you are stuffed silly, just until you are comfortably full. Portion control is very important for weight loss.

Another important point is to eat only when you are hungry. I know, common sense, right? Yes, but many people like to munch while watching t.v. or a movie, or just because they are bored, and they may not feel at all hungry when doing so. It's best to break that habit if it applies to you, otherwise those pounds might not want to come off.

Of course, you want to avoid deep-fried foods, sugary foods, salty foods and fatty foods (the bad fats). Don't forget to drink lots of water and try to avoid alcohol, soda and juice (all contain lots of sugar and empty calories!).

2. Cardio. Not only is cardiovascular exercise good for your heart, but it also helps you to sleep better, reduces stress and burns calories. Just a reminder before you begin any kind of exercise routine, please have your doctor's permission first. It is important to make sure that your body is ready and capable of exercise beforehand. Once you have the go ahead from your doctor, it is best to begin slowly and gradually increase the intensity on your workouts once you feel stronger. It can be hectic trying to care for a baby and get to the gym so you may want/need to exercise at home for awhile. There are many varieties of exercise DVDs out there that you can buy if you prefer, or you can get out for walks with your little one, or even take a baby and me class. If doing DVDs, there are many now that offer 10, 20 and 30 minute workouts which are great if baby only lets you exercise for short amounts of time. You can always do 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there, throughout the day. Every little bit counts!

3. Strength. One of the best things you can do to get rid of baby belly fat, and overall body fat, is strength-training. Strength-training also helps to raise your metabolism, which of course is great for helping you to lose baby weight. Your body will be burning calories and fat even after you have completed your workout. Lean muscle burns more fat than body fat does, so the more muscle you have on your body, the more fat you'll be burning!

How much resistance training should you do weekly? You should be doing it about 2-3 times a week. How many sets and reps should you be doing? Attempt to do 3 sets of about 10-12 reps for each exercise. How much weight should you be lifting? Make sure you start off slowly, especially if you are new to weight-lifting. You want to have weights heavy enough where when you are at your last rep, you just can't do any more without losing good form.
