Lose 70 Pounds In 90 Days

This article will take you through my journey in losing 70 lbs. in 3 months. I'm not promoting any diet plan. I'm just going to tell you about what worked for me, OK?

I've had a weight problem all my life. My parents bought me "huskies" while I was going to grammar school. I wasn't a very active kid. My parents always provided 3 good meals for me daily. School lunches were actually nutritious back then. They weren't anything like they are now with pizza, tacos, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, sweet sodas and all kinds of chips and desserts. I hear french fries are the main course especially with school girls. Today's kids don't have a chance.

Many of us have the Oprah syndrome.. You know our weight can really fluctuate over the years. I was 40 when I decided to get in shape again. I weighed about 235 pounds. My height is 5'-10 1/2 ". I was fat but not obese. So I'm going into sales and I have to improve my appearance. I'm going to sales school full time in Englewood, Florida. I am not working a regular job.

Englewood is located on Manasota Key. The house I was staying at was 100 feet from the beach. I did my exercise/training on North Beach Rd. i decided to use a little common sense and tackle this weight problem myself. No pills or doctors allowed.

The Get in Shape Plan is real simple:

  1. Drink a medium glass of plain water at least 5 times a day.
  2. Eat very low calorie meals 2 or 3 times a day. (Daily calorie count around 750)
  3. Exercise 3 times a day for at least 45 minutes at a time (walking and cycling)
  4. Take a multivitamin Supplement every day.
  5. Get at least 6 hours of sleep every night. 7 would be better
  6. No sugar, salt, dairy, beef or alcohol
  7. Have a routine to follow every day
  8. Set some goals. There must be a good reason to get in shape

The Routine:

I walked 1.5 miles every morning. The first day I could only do a quarter mile. When I returned I ate a half a can of tuna in water (not vegetable oil) and had half a bowl of salad. The salad was lettuce and a half a tomato sliced up. I only used the extremely low cal salad dressing. Maybe I would have a couple unsalted crackers.

I went to school from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. as I remember everyday. I didn't eat any lunch at school. I would drink a can of diet coke or drink some more water. I would walk around the building during my breaks and during lunch.

I'd have dinner around 6:00 P.M. For dinner I would have the other half a can of tuna and the rest of the bowl of salad I had made. I think I would have half a hard boiled egg occasionally. I always drank a glass of water before every meal. I drank a diet coke sometime during the day every day.

After dinner I'd go on a brisk bicycle ride for about 7 miles. I know this cycling really helped me a lot. There was a lot of heavy breathing. I must have gotten into that fat burning zone. Another glass of water after the bike ride.

In the very beginning I tried a very long 20 mile bicycle ride in the summer heat. Big mistake. I cramped up and fell over in the grass on the way back home. I was 5 miles from the house. It took me over an hour to rest and ride back to the house after the cramps set in. I ate a banana because someone told me to. Something about potassium.

Maybe for a before bedtime snack I'd have a couple of those no salt crackers and a glass of water. I believe water is key for losing weight. I never drank any alcohol during those 3 months. I actually quit drinking alcohol all together in 1998. I don't miss it at all now.

On Saturdays and Sundays when there wasn't school, I'd take another bike ride. I might go north instead of my usual south run. I just wanted to get my exercise in. After a month, I got be be a pretty good bike rider. I was on an old beach cruiser bike with no gears. It had coaster brakes. It was an old ugly bike. It got to the point where I could ride pretty damn fast since I rode up to 10 miles every day for 3 months.

My new wife was with me at the time. She had access to a nice 10 speed road bike. She'd go out with me occasionally. I'm sorry, but sometimes I couldn't resist and I would just leave her in the dust with that old beach cruiser. There is no way she could keep up. I was really getting in shape after 60 days.

This was my routine for 90 days until I finished school. I guess my daily calorie intake must have been around 800 calories tops. That maybe wasn't such a good thing for me looking back. It flat out worked for me, though. Oh yea, I was taking a vitamin supplement like Centrum or something everyday. It was just one pill, nothing fancy.

Why this Plan Works:

Besides the low calorie intake I drank lots of water every day. Add that to 3 semi-vigorous sessions of exercise every day had me losing a lot of weight. I noticed the fat was really coming off. I was beginning to look like one of the pro bicycle riders you see on TV. My muscles were becoming lean. I started showing some ribcage. There was just no fat on me at all after 6 weeks. I started being known as skinny. I was kind of thin, but very strong.

I cannot believe how much energy I had. We'd go for a walk in the evening sometimes. I just had to run a little bit. I had so much excess energy. I had gotten used to walking fast, almost speed walking. I would just bounce around jumping in the air on those evening walks with the wife. I acted like a puppy running around the yard. Where did all that energy come from?

I got back down to 165 lbs. I was in amazing shape. I think my wife was jealous. We moved back to Tampa. I spent some money on some new clothes. I got the job I was looking for easily. I know it was because of my attitude and my new physical presence. Ok, the new clothes didn't hurt. I stayed that way for almost a year.

Uh Oh

Then it happened again. What happened was I got sick and had to quit that job which I loved. When I started working again, I just wasn't motivated. I slid back to my old ways. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Conclusion:

You don't need to go out and spend any money on diet plans. Do it yourself if you can. I know if you have kids and a spouse to eat with at home it will be harder. I believe a person can accomplish just about anything if they really focus and set some realistic goals. How can you fail?
