Lose weight and stay motivated with running by training for a 5K. There are an overabundance of 5K roads races out there these days that it should not be a problem for you to pick a race date and train for it. By training for a road race, you will stay motivated as you are tangibly working toward a goal. With you being after weight loss, this should even be a bigger motivator in your weight loss regiment as you can use this date to celebrate with family and friends a completed goal of yours!
A 5K road race is 3.1 miles long - perhaps longer than you have run. Perhaps longer than what you have ever thought you would run. But it is extremely feasible to accomplish. I have seen six week training courses to get you from absolutely no running to being in shape to run 3.1 miles. All it takes is your own motivation and determination.
Motivation is a very strong aspect of all our lives. To be motivated gives us purpose to achieve and succeed. Once you sign up (which means spend money - usually around $20 for a 5K, although prices ostensibly vary), you have spent money on something. At the very least, spending money will keep you motivated to keep on running and training. If you tell you family and friends about it, they will not let you live it down if you do not finish your training and race. That is positive motivation: They want you to succeed! Tell everyone: Let everyone know that you are going to train for a 5K to lose weight and achieve a tremendous accomplishment. Who knows, perhaps after the race you will fall in love competing in them that you will sign up for another 5K, or perhaps even a 10K!
Write down today what you want to accomplish with losing weight, and how you will accomplish it. Will you keep it to yourself and hope you stay motivated internally? Will you let friends that you are running to lose weight and hope they ask how it is going from time to time? Or will you sign up for a 5K road race and tell everyone you know about it? I hope it is the latter.
