Ensuring safety in everything we do is a top priority, especially when losing weight where our health is at stake - doing it right will have a long term benefit. However, people tend to rush weight loss especially when there is an urgent need to do it. This can sometimes lead to crash dieting, which can have a negative impact on our health.
So, how do you lose weight safely?
Avoid crash dieting
Many believe that in order to get rid of their excess fat they should subdue their calorie intake. This is only good if you don’t go lower than the average calories that your body needs each day in order to function well. According to the UK Department of Health Estimated Average Requirements (EAR) are daily calorie intakes of 1,940 calories for women and 2,550 for men. If a person’s daily calorie intake is below average, he or she may suffer fatigue and fragile immune system which may result to illness. You should have sufficient amount of calories in your body to carry out your workout routines as well.
People, who use crash dieting, then later quit and go back to unhealthy eating, would gain back the same weight they lost before. Not all of the fats in your body are dangerous - only the excess fat needs to go.
Eat properly
So, ponder now of putting crash dieting away for good. The next step is eating properly. Choose a variety of healthy foods, not just from one source, that you may have a balanced diet. With the discovery of fat burning foods and new unconventional exercises, it was determined that in order to speed up weight loss you must eat sufficient healthy foods and never allowing yourself to go hungry, because hunger can lead to overeating.
Start with low impact exercises
If you have difficulty with dumbbells and bars or gym equipment, try low impact exercises. These types of exercises are the safest since they are mild to your bones, joints, and muscles. The top recommended low impact exercises are walking and swimming.
Walking is the safest and simplest exercise. You just have to choose comfortable footwear and clothes; warm up before walking; and cool down after walking. But the health benefits of walking are great - lesser incidence of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes; reduced level of bad cholesterol; regulated blood pressure; reduced hip and lower limb injuries; and even prevent Gallstone surgery.
Swimming is another good low impact exercise. When your body is immersed in water, you become lighter, and when the water reaches your neck, you will be carrying only 10 percent of your body weight. Swimming increases muscle tone and strength; improves flexibility; develops strong heart and lungs; helps with weight loss; reduces asthma; improves healthy ratio of cholesterol; reduces risk of diabetes; gives a healthy brain; relieves stress; and promotes longevity.
Build Lean Muscles
When you work out, your muscles will burn the calories as you carry out your exercises, and they will continue to do so even when your workout is done, as opposed to excess fats that just lie around dangling beneath the sleeves or around the pants. Aim for muscle gain and you’ll notice that you will have lesser fats. And this can only be done if you start resistance training and work out moderately-intense at least 2 hours per week.
Losing weight safely will open up a full and healthy life where one won’t have to regret about what he or she has done. Just a little sacrifice will result to a new and healthy lifestyle. And this is something to be proud of.
I like weight loss articles that are this sensible! I think the 'eat properly' bit is so crucial and yet so misunderstood. it's actually not rocket science but I guess there are so many 'other' options available for people nowadays and the best marketing is the marketing of mis-information! Makes me so frustrated. Thanks for getting this out there, lemuel!
Hello and welcome. Yeah, I agree with you about marketing mis-information. And I think, sometimes, even the fitness experts couldn't avoid foods with harmful additives. The best option would be to reduce intake of processed foods. I have a collection of diet programs and the things common to them are "natural and unprocessed" - fruits and vegetables, raw walnuts, wild fish, grass-fed meat, organic eggs, etc.
Yes. For the average person (even those on a food budget) I think the best advice is to avoid the supermarket isles. Most everything we need is around the perimeters (like the meat and vegetable departments) and the rest is generally not worth belly space if health is a focus. Not only health but good for the cost of living too!
Iemuel, Nice! I have noticed that my metabolism has certainly speeded up. All day long! Continuing to work at each fat cell:-) I appreciate your giving me more, "Ammunition!" blessings, Cynthia
Iemuel, While I sleep even. How about that! thanks for the info - Oh, and good job on the article. blessings, Cynthia
