Losing Those Extra Pounds

If you've finally decided that enough is enough and that you really need to lose some weight, whether it's for health reasons or so you can feel better about yourself, you may have already checked out some diet plans or exercise programs or both. You may have already enquired at your local gym for prices or what classes they hold but you may be having a little trouble deciding in which direction to go first.

I'm sure you'll agree, there seem to be endless methods and diets aimed to help you lose weight but in very basic terms, if you eat less calories than you burn in a day, you will lose weight. This method over a prolonged period of time however, isn't the best for maintaining a healthy weight loss or lifestyle. If you eat very, very little and decrease your calorie intake for long periods of time, this can actually cause your metabolism to slow down which will not help in your weight loss efforts.

Having said that though, short bouts of fasting (intermittent fasting) if done correctly and by following a good program can kick start your weight loss.

Drinking enough water when doing any kind of exercise is vitally important, you should aim to drink around 2 litres of water every day to stay fit and to lose weight the healthy way.

If you’re not sure where to start, I would say that you should be aiming for something you can do on a regular basis for around 20 minutes to start with. For the best long term success, this is about making it a part of your routine and then something you can build on over time.

Why not try starting with a 20 minute walk each day, or perhaps you would prefer to cycle, swim or maybe take up zumba? As long as you get your heart rate up a little bit, it’s a good fat burning exercise.

Try to stay consistent and focused. If you are looking for the best way to lose weight and your mind set isn't right, you will probably end up putting the weight back on at some stage. In truth, your weight loss plan should be a life-long commitment to health and fitness. Even after you lose the weight, in order to maintain your goal weight, you’ll need to eat right and get some exercise activity in at least a few times a week.

Weight loss and fitness go hand in hand so choose a plan you can start with and decide whether you want to kick start your weight loss effort with a good intermittent fasting plan you can follow or if you’d rather try another type of weight loss programme and then build on it for a longer, healthy and fitter life.
