Setting Goals

You probably have heard many times that you should be setting goals. You might think that it is not something you need to do. You can accomplish everything without having to set goals. This would be the wrong mind set.

If you look around you and see people that are successful in their way of life you will see that they are setting goals. They set goals for everything in life especially something like losing weight and exercising. They find that setting goals helps them achieve what they are looking for much easier and quicker.

Be careful to set goals you can actually achieve. There is no point in setting a goal to lose 20 pounds in three days. This is just not going to happen. You will certainly feel this is to much and ultimately you will fail and probably quit. Start slow see results and then set another goal.

You need to look at the big picture. What do you want to weigh one year from now. How about one month, three months and then six months and so on. Make it in small chunks so you see results and encouraged and then be willing to continue.

Yes, you might be able to lose gib weight at first. This is usually due to water loss when starting a weight loss program. When this phase is over you will be losing smaller amounts of weight each week. This is why looking at the bigger picture is so important.

You need to write down what your goals are. What type of meals are you eating and what exercises are you doing. This is important information so you can look back and see what you ate or did in a particular week to lose those extra pounds. Long term success is much more certain this way. Keep tabs on your weight as well.

Be detailed in your records. Write down the exact foods you are eating this week. Write down the exact exercises you are doing this week and what muscle group you are working on. If taking supplements write these down as well and when you take them. Be sure to write down all results even if they are not always positive.

This information will help you to cross reference and compare. You might have to change what your goals are as time goes by. You might need to change your exercise program to something a bit more intense. Because of either success or failure you may need to make some tweaks to your program to see the results you want.

You do have a long term goal set out. Now you need those short and intermediate goals to be attainable so you stay focused to complete the job at hand.

You will probably have to change those short term and intermediate goals because you were to easy on yourself when you set them in the first place. As you grow stronger with exercise and leaner more energetic because of your food choices you will need to step your program up a notch to make it challenging. The rewards of success.

There are times when you just don't lose weight. You have reached a plateau with your weight loss program. Now would be the time to check your records and see where changes can be made to get on the forward track again.

You can avoid plateau's by changing what you eat and the exercises you do every week. You need to keep your body on your toes and this way you will succeed.
