Many people want to know how to lose belly fat, get abs and be in the best shape of their lives. However, losing belly fat can be quite challenging for most people, yet having a low body fat percentage is the key to getting a great set of abs. High-Intensity Interval Training
Most people know that they will have to exercise in order to burn belly fat, but some do not know how to exercise in the most efficient way. Yes it is about working hard, but it is also about working smart. Some people think that they can burn belly fat and get abs by doing hundreds of crunches per day. Crunches help strengthen your abdominal muscles, but they do very little to burn fat.
In order for you to burn fat and reveal your abdominals, you must perform cardio exercise at a high intensity, in shorter bursts. A lot of people make the mistake of only performing moderate-intensity cardio for a longer period of time. For example, jogging for an hour a day on a treadmill. Moderate-intensity exercise may prevent you from gaining belly fat, but it certainly is not the most efficient way to burn body fat.
Here is a good example of High-intensity interval training. This involves alternating high-intensity exercise with low-intensity exercise. For example, you can run at a speed of 8 MPH for one minute and then jog at a speed for 4 mph for one minute. As you get fitter, and your goals become more ambitious, you can begin to incorporate 100% effort sprints into your workout too. High-intensity interval training not only helps you burn fat, but it also helps increase your metabolism higher and for longer. This in turn, helps your body burn more calories when you are at rest.
Perform Exercises That Target Your Abs
There are several exercises that you can perform that target your abdominal muscles. One of the exercises that you can perform is the lunge twist. You will need to stand with your feet hip width apart and slightly bend your knees. Your elbows should be bent at a 90 degree angle. You will need to lunge forward with your left leg and rotate your arms and torso to the left. Return to the starting position and then repeat on your right side. Repeat 16 times on each side.
The step hop is another very good exercise that is efficient at toning your abs. You will need to stand with your feet hip-width apart. Slightly bend your knees and put your hands on your hips. Step forward with your left foot then lift your right knee to your hip level and then hop straight up on your left leg. Repeat this exercise on your right side. Perform this exercise 16 times on each side.
These are just two examples of ab specific exercises you can do at home to strengthen your core and tone your mid section.
Eat More Fat Burning Foods
A discussion about getting abs would not be complete without covering diet. Even if you exercise every day, you will still have trouble getting abs if you are not eating the right foods. Diet is the single most important factor when getting in top shape and toning your abs. My favorite saying is;
"6 Pack abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym"
This is so true! You MUST eat clean, natural foods, and cut out junk processed foods to see good results. Certainly treat yourself and have a day off over the weekend where you eat what you want, but for the rest of the week you must eat well. You will need to make sure you get a good balance of protein, for muscle repair and growth; and plenty of veg for minerals and vital vitamins. Also, a small amount of carbs such as brown bread, pasta or rice will help give you energy when working out. However, you must go very easy on carb groups as they can trigger fat gain very easily.
