There are tons of weight-loss diet programs out there today and most of them are not very good. There is a huge chance that we fail many of these programs because they are so restrictive and limits us from doing things we would normally do. Things like going out for dinner with a friend or family can be difficult when on a weight-loss diet.
These kinds of weight-loss diets make you hunger for it to end to go back to your normal life and that is another problem and why we don’t see continues results. It is understandable because most of these programs make you feel miserably hungry all the time and that is not funny.
I think that weight-loss diets that do not include some kind of work-out are frivolous and do not deserve attention. I don’t believe in programs where you count calories or give each piece of food an amount of points. But what I do believe is that there are some basic rules when it comes to healthy diets. If you want to change your way of eating and lifestyle in a whole you need to focus on the foods that are good for you. I believe that the majority of us know what not to eat. So let me focus on the main contents of the food you should be eating.
1. Quality protein with low fat. Quality protein is normally organic meats, which is grass fed animals, or wildly caught fish.
2. Low-GI carbohydrate where GI is glycemic indexed as in multi grained bread, oats, low-fat milk and even most fruits.
3. Fibers. You want and need fibers and it does help you in a lot of ways. It lowers your blood sugar and can even help you preventing cancer types like colon cancer.
4. Healthy fat. What in the world is healthy fat you might ask? Well let’s start killing the myth that all fats are bad for you. They are not. While some are bad for you we should be focused on the unsaturated fats that are in nuts, fish and vegetable oils and so on.
5. Sugar-free beverages. Stick with water, tea and coffee and try not to drink too much sugar-free sodas or do as I do, stay away from it. Coffee should be minimized as well since it has caffeine that can be bad in too large doses.
Another important thing that needs to be controlled is the amount we eat. Eat five to six times a day to keep your body working and stick to these rules mentioned above then you can eat a lot of different things without feeling hungry all the time.
The only 'good' diet is one that re-educates on lifestyle choices. There are substitutes for many things that are just as pleasing and, as you pointed out, don't depend on starvation or point counting.
Good article Thom, so many diets out there and most for money and of no damn use to anyone.
