How Do I Make Mulled Wine

In the UK every November through to December the same question raises it's seasonal head - how do I make mulled wine? Every Christmas time mulled wine is enjoyed by millions as a fun alcoholic beverage. For some reason it has not really caught on in the US yet but in the UK and across many European countries it is very popular with each having their own special version to boast about.

To make things more particular for each country most of them have their own names for mulled wine as well as their own special recipes. For example, while we call it mulled wine, the French may call it 'Vin Chad' or the Swedish will call it 'Glogg'. Mulled wine has become common for a winters nightcap or is used in particular winter parties so you can imagine the ways on how do i make mulled wine are often searched for through the winter months.

So how do I make mulled wine? Mulled wine is basically a red wine with a variety of tasty herbs and spices. If you are German you would make a 'Gluhwein' for a version of mulled wine. This will involve a basic red wine being heated at a slow pace, when it has reached a decent warmish temperature then orange juice and sugar should be added. After this slowly heat again for the orange and sugar to dissolve and mix in a bit. Purchase some cheap vanilla flavoring ( like essence of vanilla or a similar liquid format ) add and taste. To finish the drink off Gluhwein traditionally has a stick or two of cinnamon place into the glass to add to the finished taste and for using as an organic drink stirrer.

So we've covered how to make the German version of mulled wine but how do Imake mulled wine that is readily available in my country at Christmas time? As I've already touched upon the main process is spices and red wine - so basically bring wine, spices and added sugar to the boil, simple! Not quite that simple. There are only particular spices that you should be using and these include cinnamon ( as already mentioned ), nutmeg and cloves. It's important to stick to these spices if possible because straying away from them and using different spices may sound adventurous but will end up tasting pretty nasty.
