What is the best red wine brand? A question many often contemplate. Judging a good red wine brand really comes down to a persons own taste satisfaction. Qualities like dry, mellow, and sweet are all qualities that many look for in their favorite wine. Full bodied and light tasting is also considered when picking a good red wine. Evaluating a wine brand involves seeing the wine, swirling, smelling, sipping, and savoring the wine.

Color and clarity are the two first observations one can make of a wine. Red wines vary in color from pink tones to dark red, purple-black tones. Observe the clarity of the wine when looking at the color. Red wines that are darker may be harder to observe the clarity, look at the edge of the wine next to the glass to inspect these darker wines. Good wine clarity should have no free floating particles in the wine that would disturb the clarity.

Swirling wine is a technique used to vaporize the harsh aromatic compounds. Swirling the wine allows the taster to smell the more readily components. Smelling a wine allows a taster to enjoy the aroma of which a particular red wine offers. Wine’s can have thousands of pleasant and fascinating aromas, making every different wine brand mysterious and a personal experience. The aroma should always be pleasant to the person’s own judgment.

Tasting the wine allows each taster to find the characteristic to their own preference. Sweet, sour, and bitter are the most common characteristics used to describe a wine. The consumer is in control to delegate what characteristic he/she may want to be more prominent in the wine.

No one person wants to have a bad aftertaste in their mouth after tasting a wine. Aftertaste is just as important as the actual taste of a wine. Wines are considered flawed when aftertaste lead to bitter, hot, metallic or too sweet tastes. A good brand of red wine should always leave a good aftertaste in consumer’s mouth. A taster should never cringe after tasting a wine of good quality.

It is not just a taste of wine that makes a good wine. An assortment of senses is used to judge a red wine. There are many wine clubs, stores, books, magazines, and contest that judge and rank the best brands of wine. Ranking the brands of good wine makes it easier on a consumer to choose the right red wine. A good reminder, always trust your own personal style of taste.
