In my opinion, I think port wine goes well with a nice hunk of good cheese. Port wine is a smooth sweet tasting wine and it counter balances the taste of rich good cheese. The first time I tried port, I liked it so much I drank the whole bottle. All my friends I had over were laughing at me because I'm drinking a special wine not regular wine.
Well, I didn't care what they said because If I like something I will keep it the way I like it. So my three favorite drink's to serve you will be port wine, red wine, or white wine. If your good, I might through you a hunk of good cheese. "Just Kidding". If you start crying though, I will ask you if you want some cheese and crackers with that whine?
I could eat cheese, crackers, and a glass of port as a meal and be satisfied. Many people never tried port wine and if I mention it I always get the question what is that? That is why I keep a bottle around for people to try. My favorite cheese is Brie Cheese. The buttery one is good melted and spread on baby melba wheat toast.
Only certain stores carry certain types of cheese and depending on what state you live in, you may have to go to a liquor store to get your port wines like I do. In NJ they don't sell alcohol in super markets. I like a nice hunk of cheese anytime port wine is around. I can't explain the pair of them you will have to try for yourself.
My boyfriend Tom taught me a lot about wines and different types of cheeses. If it wasn't for him, I probably would still think sharp cheddar is the best! lol...
He would always bring a new cheese over to my house and said I have a new cheese for you to try. I will try anything once and that is one thing he loved about me. How do you know if you ever like anything new if you keep eating the same old thing.
I don't drink port wine like I did because it is sweet and I only pour a little bit in my wine glass to get that little taste to compliment the cheese. I'm a wine lover and a cheese lover, hopefully I will age like both, "good".
I hope if any of you that are reading this article have had the experience of pairing a good hunk of cheese and port wine together, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you never tried it and you don't mind trying new things, then I suggest you try the experience once, I'm sure you will agree also and tell your friends about it.
There are many types of port wine I don't have a preference for you. Most port wine that I have tried all been good to me. Give me your feedback if you try it ok and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Nice article and great humor within your article. I do have to agree, wine and cheese goes together. I've never had any port wine. When I was Europe we drank a lot of wine on many different occasions. Amsterdam had some of the best cheeses I ever had. Lot's of great info and keep listening to Tom because he is enabling you to make sharp choices of enlightenment.
